no spark at spark plug?

a lot of auto parts stores have a machine that will test ignition control modules. so take it off and bring it to them before you spend the money on a new one.

now, if it tests bad, then it's definitely bad. But i have seen some that passed the test but would run poorly on the car.

since your car wont start at all, i dont think that will be an issue.

On the diagnostic connector under the driver side dash, jump T1 and E1 pins and turn the ignition switch on with engine off. The check engine light will flash you the codes if there are any stored. OBD1 is not very reliable. If the light just keeps flashing then there is no codes. If the light blinks twice, quick pause then blinks six times then that will be code 26 and then it will pause and blink some other codes if any until it repeats itself.

As for the coil not sparking, you could have a bad distributor? Here is a diagnostic flow chart from the Toyota manual. Follow that chart and that should help you figure out what is going on.

Hello again, checked distributor, NE-G 189. G1-G. 250 AND G2 -G 250, does this mean it is bad since G 1 and G 2 should be between 125-19?

If that is what you are measuring then it looks like the distributor would need replacing.

Yes, I measured the resistance, coil igniter fuses, all comply with specs distributor not so much, but before I throw more money at this, does the 1993 v6 3l have a crank sensor that could be the problem? could not seem to find an answer on line.

my car will try to turn over when i start it but its acting like its not getting a spark? Coil? its a 1993 toyota camry le 4cyl...Not sure where to start on this matter don't want to spend money thats not needed.... cant hook up to diagostics to old

1st check for spark
2nd check timing belt
3rd check for fuel and fuel pressure

And also, am I correct to believe that a bad distributor can cause no spark from the coil back to the distributor to the plugs?

yes, you are correct because it does not tell the coil to fire the circuit.

Well I guess I am on my own again, kind of thought that, but thank you guys for trying. I know how it goes, my best guess is the distributor too, guess money talks.

When there is spark issues I always recommend a distributor since they are cheaper now then they were ten years ago. Let us know if the distributor did fix the problem.

Hello to everyone again, I'm back to let everyone know that I figured out the problem on my Camry, turns out it did have to do with the maf sensor in a way . And also my brain fart. I started to think back to what I did exactly when I went to clean the maf and remembered that i started to loosen the 2 philip head screws where the maf plugs into and pulled it out roughly a quarter inch before tightening it back up after realizing no need. Regardless to say and how this affected spark is beyond me but I loosened back up the 2 screws and wiggled the prongs a lil and tightened and it fired right up. I must assume that the prongs were not making a good connection but either way it's purring like a kitten again. I would like to thank all you guys for your input it has definitely been a learning experience and learned a lot along the way. Thanks again

Bought a car that would crank but get no sprak or fuel I replaced the distributor and the igniter and I decided to check the ecm it smelt burnt so I replaced it. The car now gets fuel when i crank it but still no spark what could it be ? I've checked all the fuses they're good I just havent checked the starter relay. Help thank you

Wouldn't it be in the distributor? Because I replaced the whole distributor and still no spark

Did you use a new distributor or used?

Did it come with a coil? A lot of them did not come with a coil. You had to change them over.

A used one from a car that's the same and it was a working running car.

You still need to check for power to the coil to see if there is power.

OK, check the negative side of the coil with a test light and crank the engine and see if the test light blinks.

There is spark now but when I try to turn the car on it wont start I believe the power my cut when I try to start it

You need to do the test I told you with the test light to determine the area of failure.
