Speedometer not working

It is probably the vehicle speed sensor. Not the input or output sensor.

It should, but I have to say it doesn't always happen.

My 2001 Mitsubishi Galant speedometer is not working it just stays on 0. I got a speed sensor from ebay used. I dont know how to test it, but i installed it and its still the same. Check engine light is on and meter doesnt move when i drive only the rpm moves. What should i do? How can i test the sensor i got? and if its not the sensor what else can it be?

Have a scan done to retrieve the troule code for the CEL indicating. If it indicates the speed sensor, erase the code and retet. If CEL comes on and sets codes for faulty speed sensor, you either have a bad speed sensor or its wiring circuit.

Ensure wire connector to VSS is clean and securely installed.

1. Remove VSS from transaxle. Jumper a 3000-10,000 ohm resistor between sensor terminals No. 1 and 3. Connect battery positive voltage to sensor terminal No. 1 and battery negative voltage to sensor terminal No. 2. See Fig. 7.

2. Connect a voltmeter between sensor terminals No. 2 and 3. Manually turn speed sensor shaft. Voltage should pulse 4 times each revolution. Replace VSS if operation is not correct.

i have a mitsubishi galant 2000 and the speedo has stopped working. I redcently changed the ABS light bulb. Please help.

If the problem occurred after replacement of the ABS indicator bulb, then you would have to remove the meter cluster again to recheck the wiring harness connectors. Get a scan done to check if there are any trouble codes indicating a failed speed sensor. Autozone and most national parts outlets provided free scanning services.

Hi I just had my heating fixed on my 2004 Mitsubishi Galant. The mechanic had to remove the dashboard and replace 3 parts (heater control valve, blend door actuator and heater core). The heating works now, but my speedometer cluster is messed up. The RPM needle works, and so do the temperature and fuel tank indicators. However, the temperature indicator is slightly lower than where it should be, and the fuel tank needle is slightly higher than it should be. The speedometer needle is completely messed up and starts very low within the cluster, much below the 0 mark. It then picks up and goes to a maximum of 40 kph. It however doesn't pick up in a normal fashion. It doesnt seem to be just un-aligned and off the 0 position but a little weird in general. I am going to give it back to my mechanic soon to get it fixed but I thought I'd get some advice from you anyways. What could be the problem? My mechanic told me to open up the cluster on my dash and try to re-align the needle by hand (while the car is off), which I did, but as soon as I turned the car back on, the needle went haywire and fell back below the mark. Please advise, thanks!
