What is the best way to replace the ignition switch connector? Do I need to solder it or clamp it?
I know there is a bad connection there. Today check engine came on. Codes p0882, p0714, p0218 only show up in summer time.

Thank you

Good morning again.

Solder and shrink wrap is the best way to ensure a good connection.

Are you replacing the pigtail or just one wire?

Check and see if you can get a pigtail. That is a new connector and wires. All you have to do is solder and shrink wrap to the existing harness.

Good deal. Make sure you shrink wrap the joint after you solder it. Butt connectors will not work. They will overheat from the current draw cause a voltage drop.

Once you are finished. Then drive it and see if any codes return.

Oh, I forgot to tell you the PCM was replaced two years ago. The p0882 always triggers when starting this engine.aka vehicle speed 0 mph. Also, I replaced filter and transmission oil two weeks ago. However, the codes were there before transmission fluid replacement.

Okay, let's cross that bridge after you replace the connector. You may have a voltage supply issue that is causing those codes.

I replaced the connector solder the wires and heat shrink them. P0218 came back I think not sure, only when the AC is on. when I turn the AC on I checked the coolant temperature with code reader it was 221 and kept climbing. I did not hear the high speed fan turns on. Only heard the fan running one speed.

If you turn on the AC does the high speed work on the cooling fan?

Did you replace the thermostat?

Yes, the fan turns on but does not seem it is high speed. I just jumped the fan pig tail. I jumped the middle pin ground with the right pin fan turned on. After jumped ground with left pin fan turned on, however they seems they are same speed.

Check the dark blue/orange wire for power. that is the high speed motor control. It comes for the TIPM. If it has power, then the fan motor is bad. If it does not then the TIPM is bad.

There are two relay on top of fan. When AC on both relays are closed. I guess the high speed in this car and fan is running I did not check yet at the fan harness if there are power in both wires.

Those connectors are no good. They are burned up from high resistance.

Is that the original or the replacements?

Transmission fluid temperature is a bit high. Wondering if the cooler may be restricted.

It would need to be flow tested by someone to be sure there is no restriction. It would be cheaper to replace it than have it checked.

Take the temperature at the top and bottom and see what the temperature difference is between the two test areas.

The code that returned is p0218.

Okay, remove the connectors and clean them. Make sure there are no dirty or damaged pins. Use electrolytic grease on the pins for a better connection and retets.

How did the transmission cooler get clogged up? I have seen a video showing someone was cleaning cooler using a machine and in the filter was like metallic particles.
