Hi,

You lost me on that question. LOL There is a valve spring compressor that is used to remove or replace a valve spring or when you need to remove a valve. Is that what you're referring to? Could you send me a pic of the tool you're referring to?

I figured it out, but this is the tool. Any idea why all of a sudden, my engine won’t turn by hand? Timing is not off. I can’t figure it out. It turns easily counterclockwise but I don't know how far because I don’t know if I can turn it that way too much but clockwise it just stops at a certain spot.

Hi,

Are the spark plugs installed? That will create compression and make it difficult to turn. If they are in, remove them to see if it turns easily.

Ariana,

When you turn it, do you feel it clunk to a stop? Are any of the bolts hitting a pulley? How far can you turn it until this happens?

I guess all I needed was a socket, lol. I was turning it by hand when it stopped. The second I put a socket on it moved. Do I need this tool to install the rear main seal or is there another way?

Hi,

Using that tool will ensure it will be properly installed. I've seen people try to tap the seal into place with a nylon tip hammer, but they usually leak shortly thereafter. I would think a parts store would lend you the tool. I recommend using it.

I attached directions below specific to replacing that seal. I hope they help.

Take care,

Joe

I’m having trouble getting the front seal in. It just pops back outer it goes passed the timing cover and practically off of the crank snout.

You told me to keep you updated. Well, after about 7 months, numerous setbacks, giving up multiple times, countless paydays and side jobs, parts being on national backorder, and going from not knowing the difference between an oil and transmission dipstick to reading a lot and asking a ton of questions while attempting to rebuild my engine in my living room, I’m finally done. So hopefully this will be my last few questions. Is there anything that is easier to install with the engine on the stand either on the engine itself or, because I took out my power steering pump and some other stuff, in the actual engine bay? Is there anything I should take out besides the mounts to make installing the engine as easy as possible? Should I pressure wash the engine bay first?
