Hi Guys, i have a 96 grand caravan vehicle stopped running, checked and replaced most sensors with working units, still wouldnt crank, replaced timing chain, [ had 1 inch of play ] put back together, van started, I ran couple of minutes, ran fine, shut down, to lock everything in place, then van was erratic in starting, and finally lost spark, cycled ignition, to reset, and still no spark, Ive got my 50#s at fuel rack, not a gas issue, need ideas, thanks,

No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, cap and rotor, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it and keep testing

Sorry, I don't understand what you're doing. The distributor doesn't have to be removed when replacing the timing belt. When piston 1 is at top dead center, the rotor should be pointing between the top terminals for cylinders 2 and 6. That's where the circuit comes out the inside of the cap and touches the rotor for cylinder number 1. As I recall, that will have the rotor pointing straight toward the back of the vehicle.

As far as spark, do you have primary voltage at the coil, engine cranking, probable dark green wire with orange tracer. Same wire at the fuel injectors. That voltage comes from asd relay, the relay may not be faulty, maybe no ground for some reason? Any applicable mil codes?

Electrical problem
1989 Dodge Caravan 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
The van ran fine when i parked it except it smoked. I replaced the valve seals which involved removing the intake manifold and all connections to it. afterwards it won't start. I have looked and looked for something that I forgot to plug in but every thing is connected. The van cranks and I have lights, radio, etc. On the first failed attempt at starting it, I thought that I had left the coil wire off. when I got out to check it I noticed that a rubber fuel line had been puctured and was spray fuel onto the alternator. By the time that I repaired the puctured fuel hose I was pretty certain that all fuel had evaporated. It would not start. I removed a plug to see if there was signs of fuel and there was moisture (my sense of smell is limited) I connected the plug wire to the plug and ground it to the manifold. Using a jumper wire to the starter, I cranked the engine and no spark. I used the same method, holding the coil wire close to ground and still no spark from the coil. Could the gas spraying on the alternator . . .fry the coil. I also thought maybe it jumped time while rotating the engine during the valve seals, but I should still have spark . . .it would just be out of time . .correct? I thought to follow the 2 small wires that go to the coil would lead me to a forgotten connector but they go into the harness and I'm lost. Should there be 12 v at the small coil wires with the ignition ON or is that dependent on the ECU. I don't get it, everything is plugged in . . .what happen and what to look for. Not to brag . . .but for a smart person I feel stupid. Please respond to [email protected]

Thanks,

Engine cranking, check primary voltage at the coil and fuel injectors. If no voltage, look for an rpm signal.

Check for applicable trouble codes. you should be able to check mil codes yourself. You cycle the on--off, on--off, on, then the mil starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes. Your looking for two digit codes.

Welcome to the forum, if it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it, while you check for spark at the plugs. Use a gage and check fuel pressure. Can you access some codes by the check engine lite method? You cycle the key, just till dash lites come on, no further. on-off, on-off, on, then the cel starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes.
