My truck wont crank when I try unless I hold the key in the on position for at least 15 seconds. I replaced the starter relay and it still does it.

Today my truck actually shut off while I was driving. When I put it in park and tried again, it started although I had to wait two minutes before putting it in drive otherwise I would cut off.

Yukon shuts off while driving down rd. It doesn't do it all the time. We have noticed that if you have the air and you let the vehicle sit and idol it will shake like it is choking and then eventually will shut off completely or you have to shut it off. We have taken it to 4 different mechanics and no one seems to be able to tell us anything. no codes come up but the check engine light comes on. PLEASE help

Usually if there is a sensor bad, or something like that, the service engine soon light will come on? There is a code stored inside of your computer somewhere causing the light to come on.

Lets run down this guide to see what come up

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

GM has had lots of problems with the fuel pumps I have heard of a recall on these but I am not positive. This may be the problem.

So, start with finding out what the code is for the check engine light. check back here and let me know what the code is for the light.

Cheers,

What is wrong with my SUV GMC Yukon? I will start it up and start to drive and once I come to a stop it cuts off and starts up right away. I then maybe get to a turn at a light and it stops in the turn. If it runs cont. for 20-30 min I don't have the problem any more. I took it to the shop and had the fuel pump changed and filiter. What else could it be?

Car wouldn't crank, replaced battery with a rebuilt one a month later is wouldnt crank for my wife.I came home after a few days and it cranked for me even though it took some time.Had battery recharged and alternator checked.Reinstalled battery and alternator drove around 2 miles and it just shut off refired moved a few hundred feet and it shut off again.A few hours later it cranked and made it the 2 miles back home.Took to a repair shop everything checked fine left it there over the weekend when they came in Monday morning the volts was only at 9.Put in a brand new battery drove 2.5 miles home and it shuts off again in the drive way.

Before you replace parts, a few checks should be done. First, does the starter still crank the engine? Second, have you checked to see if there is proper fuel pressure to the engine?

Let me know.

Hot failure is a classic symptom of a bad crankshaft position sensor on the GMs. I have gotten to the point I carry a spare and the wrenches to change it in my Blazer.

A quick test can be done using a can of "canned air" which is actually R134A. When it shuts down, turn the can upside down and spray the sensor. (upside down sprays out the coolant as a liquid, not as "air", don't spray it on your skin) Wait a couple seconds and try to start it. The 134A will chill the sensor and make it operate, until it heats up again.

Driving for about 45 minutes on fwy. Got off fwy. & car made a noise (maybe electrical whirl?) for about a minute... then died... everything turned off and slowly came to a stop. Tried to start again and it won't crank over. Thought maybe it ran out of gas and put two gallons in. It didn't do anything. Please help!!

My car is the SLE model.
Pulled in garage after dropping my daughter off at her volleyball practice. Took a two hour nap while waiting. After my beauty rest jumped in my ride and started her up. Started like a champ. Started pulling out on reverse and all of a sudden engine just shut off. Started her back up with no problem. What i noticed was the change in idle. On reverse needle on gauge went below 500 rpm. maybe at 400 or so. It slowly went back to 700 moments later. I then placed her in drive and same thing drop below 400 or so then gradually rises up. What the heck is going on? Dirty MAF sensor? dirty throttle body? plugs going bad? Please help. Thank you.

Thanks for the reply Ken. It was actually the maf. I removed it and the intake tube as well. Cleaned both maf and throttle body with their respected cleaners. After clean idle is back to normal and never drops below 700. I was relieved, because i was thinking it was the TCC solenoid. I was hoping not to drop the trans pan to get to it.

Hi Ken..

Kind of jumped the gun a little. It was driving fine for a bit, but the dreadful CEL on the dash along with a message stating 'Reduced Engine Power' on dic. I pulled the codes and got P1518 which points to the Throttle Body. Maybe I sprayed too much Carb cleaner in the area and got the wires wet somehow. Going to check the connectors before i buy a new TB.

All connectors pertaining to the TB all good. I shook them and still didnt post any error code(s). Did more research on the P1518 and it could be a bad tac module, which I just ordered. I'll update once i have replaced the part.

I installed the tac module yesterday. Took her to work this morning and so far so good. It was fairly easy to remove and install. Hopefully code wont come back. Crossing fingers.

This just started while driving I went to pass another car I lost power then the truck shut off. It started up, but when you accelerate it bogs down and shuts off again. Whenever you accelerate the truck just bogs down and shuts off all the time, but it will always start back up.
