truck wont start?

changed the engine in the truck,the fuel pump and filter, and the starter. after changing fuel pump tried to start the truck,but the truck will not start. It turns over but does not start. Could the security system keep the truck from starting up, i unhooked the battery for 30 minutes,but the security light did not go off. Do you have any ideas of what i need to do or could do? and thank you for your help

it is a 1999 is it still the same directions, or could it be different.

i did some modification (lowered it) on the s-10 the friday prior to using my car on sunday to work and it worked fine. half way to work my car couldn't all of a sudden couldn't go, no power then all of a sudden it just died. pulled on the side of the road checked everything and looked fine. tried to jump start it but it wouldnt start. it has a half a tank of gas. couldnt get it to start so we towed it back home. took out the bed of the truck and were just guessing that it could be the fuel pump? or by doing the modification could of triggered something? or because its old and mileage is high could also be the problem? or do you think that i might find more problems if i fix the fuel pump? Please advise. i am 19 yrs old and need the car for work and school and i cant afford to buy a brand new car. this s-10 was given to me from my grandparents. thank you.

Ok lowering you truck should not have cause anything to go wrong. Now what I need to know is one how old is the fuel filter? I also need to know what fuel pressure do you have? If you do not have access to a fuel pressure tester then you can do this. Get a rag and a small screwdriver. Find the fuel shradder valve (looks like a tire valve) on the fuel rail. Now depress it slowly (there should be pressure here) and see if you get fuel from it. It should have pressure so be carefull so you don't get it in your eyes. Now if there is no pressure or little pressure then crank the truck over and check again if it don't change then I would recommend fuel pump and strainer and fuel filter. Your fuel system shoud have 40 to 47 psi of fuel pressure. Let me know what you find.

hi racefan966, thanks for your response. we did what you said and it didnt have no pressure at all. i believe the fuel filter has never been changed since it was bought. we just changed the fuel pump the fuel filter and it will crank but it doesn't turn over. now what? could it be something else? this could be the question of the day. could it be a car alarm that can trigger something not to work? i dont know. again thankyou so much. your response is greatly appreciated.

Do you hear the fuel pump come on as you crank it? If not then we need to check to see if the fuel pump is getting power. When the fuel pump went it may have blown the fuse or the the fuel pump relay and with a digital multi meter we can check that. So I need you to check the ECM B fuse it is a 20 amp this powers the fuel pump relay if this is good then check the gray wire at the fuel pump make sure there is power there, keep in mind when you turn the key on you will only get power there for about 3 seconds so you may need to crank it a few seconds. If that is good then check the black wire (inside the left rear frame rail) for a good ground. If the gray wire at the pump has no power then I would suspect that the fuel pump relay but before just replacing it you will need to check the green wire with the white stripe at the fuel pump relay for power while cranking. If there is power there while cranking then replace the fuel pump relay. Let me know what you find.

I had this same problem on my 2000 s10. after alot of trouble shooting I found that I had inadvertanly broken the ground wire connection located inside of the frame (driver side by the rear bumper. The wireing sheath prevented seeing it but ohming the ground or black wire it ot told me it was an open ground due to infanant resistance (not 0 ohms) from pump connector to chassis. hope this helps.

i have a 1998 chevy s10 with the 4.3 and it won't start. it will turn over but doesn't fire. i even tried using starting fluid and got nothing but a belch after it quit cranking. the check engine light is on but it has been for about 5 years with no problems.(my fathers truck)i can hear the fuel pump kick on when i turn the key so i assume it is working. my father seems to thimk it has jumped time or the plugs are fouled but it was running fine just the other day. i thought maybe the fuel line was frozen since we have had some cold temps. but not sure how to check if it is getting fuel or not

My engine runs fine. It will not start unless I remove the throttle block air box ,open the butterfly flapper and spray starter fluid into the throttle block.It will then start. The vehicle is new to me and seems to start ok if the engine is at normal temperature. The previous owner s tells me it has started hard since it was new.

I was driving home one day and all the dash lights came on and the truck shutdown one second later the lights went out and the truck was running again then the lights went back on amd the truck quit running went back out a couple days later and it started up,Ishut bit down and tried again and it would not start none of the idiot ligts came on either couldn't set the emergency lights just got buzing sound battery is charged and both terminals work

The battery light on the dashboard has been on for about 5 days, but the battery gauge was right in the middle so I was waiting until payday to get a new battery. However, tonight I was driving and all the guages dropped to zero and the dashboard dimmed. I pulled over because I was freaked out. When I tried to start the truck again it would not start. What do you think is wrong, and about how much is it going to cost? Thank you in advance for your time and response.

yeah your battery probably took a crap or your alternator is not charging the reason your dash light s all went dim is because you have no more power/battery left check batt or alternator autozone checks both for free so i would jump start it and head over there with some money for either a batteryh or alternator good luck

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has four injector driver circuits, each of which controls an injector. The PCM monitors the current in each driver circuit by measuring a voltage drop through a fixed resistor and is able to control the driver circuit. The current through each driver can rise to a peak of 4 amps to quickly open the injectors and can reduce to 1 amp to hold the injectors open. This is called peak and hold. If the current cannot reach a 4 amp peak, a DTC is set. This DTC is also set if an injector driver is shorted to voltage.
CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
Injector current is less than 4 amps.
Battery voltage is more than 9 volts.
Above conditions met for 7 seconds.
ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminates.
The PCM records the operating conditions at the time when the diagnostic fails. This information stores in the Freeze Frame and Failure Records buffers.
A history DTC stores.
The coolant fan turns ON.
CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE MIL/DTC
The MIL will turn OFF after three consecutive ignition cycles in which the diagnostic runs without a fault.
A history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive warm up cycles without a fault.
The MIL/DTC(s) can be cleared by using the scan tool.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
An injector driver circuit that is open or shorted to voltage will cause a DTC P0200 to set and will also cause a misfire due to an inoperative injector. A misfire DTC should also be set indicating which cylinder is inoperative.
Long term and short term fuel trims that are excessively high or low are a good indication that an injector is malfunctioning. Use Fuel Injector Balance Test [Sequential Fuel Injection (SFI) ] to check for malfunctioning injectors.
TEST DESCRIPTION
Number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the Diagnostic Table.

This creates an electronic copy of the data taken when the malfunction occurred. The information is then stored on the scan tool for later reference.
This step determines if DTC P0200 is the result of a hard malfunction or an intermittent condition.
This step test the harness wiring and for PCM control of the fuel injectors using the test light J 34780-2. If the test light blinks, the PCM and wiring to the fuel injectors are OK. Fuel Injector Balance Test (SFI) will check if the fuel injectors are malfunctioning.
Whether the test light was ON steady or OFF while cranking the engine narrows the possible malfunctions down to just a few.
Because the test light was ON steady, voltage to the fuel injector is OK, but the fuel injector driver circuit is grounded at all times. This step determines if the circuitry is shorted to ground or the PCM is malfunctioning.
Replacement PCMs must be reprogrammed and the crankshaft position system variation procedure must be performed. Refer to the latest Techline information for PCM reprogramming and also refer to the Crankshaft Position (CKP) System Variation Learn Procedure for the Crankshaft Position System Variation Procedure.
Determines if voltage is available to the fuel injector. Voltage is supplied through the fuel pump relay so the engine must be cranked to see voltage at the fuel injector.
This step determines if the fuel injector driver circuit is open, shorted to voltage or if the PCM is malfunctioning.

Engine runs but is weak on acceleration. We have just installed a new fuel pump--It would not run at all prior to the new fuel pump.
Any suggestions?

run a scan on the engien to see if any codes pop up firts.then put a vacuum guage on the motor and see what the vacuum is. If it is running low- like 15" at idle then it's possible you could have either a plugged converter or collapsed exaust system on the inside. If you suspect a plugged converter then try to remove it and run the engine at idle if your vacuum comes up to 20" or so then that probably your problem.

I have a 98 Dodge Dakota. The vehicle will start but stalls out after after staring and will not restart. Seems like it is not getting fuel. I let it sit a couple of hours and it will start and then stall with the sames results. I want to change my fuel filter but can't find it. DO I have to drop the tank to find the filter? or could it be something else?

Most fuel injection cars and trucks have the filter about half way between the tank and engine on the frame but on Dodge Dakota the fuel filter located inside the fuel tank, It is a non replacable filter
