Is it possible for them after receiving all info relevant to my car / IP number- BJSX code- VIN/ to commit such a mistake/foul play? I will abide by your invaluable reminder and inquire as long as no payment has been made so far.

Hopefully so dear friend. This is the latest response from the PCM guys. I am awaiting their reply for the other rather more crucial inquiry of how compatible their PCM to mine as per the serial number and the calibration code.

Insha Allah like they say here. It will take a long long time because the car is left behind us in Iraq but I thought of cutting the lead time down through buying the PCM right now. What is lsghing behind is the OTC scanner issue, my friend in Texas is slow somehow.

This is a reflection of another question thread regarding the DLC connector of my car, the one that came to a conclusion of buying an OTC GENESYS scanner from eBay since it is one of few makes that can read the DLC I have which lies somewhere between OBD 1 and OBD 2. So I am now after a second-hand scanner as well as a PCM flashed according to my own VIN.

Hi dear friends, a latest update regarding buying a PCM for my car. Attached is a list that has what seems to be the best pick for my car so far, it is highlighted in blue and a friend of mine living in Virginia is about to collect and ship it to me. Somehow, I have the following queries indeed:
1. The EPROM of my suspected PCM ( seen here, second attachment) has a serial number and a calibration code too. While the (BJSX) code is there; the serial number ( 16199198 ) differs from the two numbers on the cover of the PCM/label (SERV No. 16183978 ) and (16199183), is this okay?
2. Since I first bought this car in 2006, I had been replacing its engine quite often( We have the least spares of it here in Iraq, they usually replace rather than overhaul, even while using second hand items it looks a better option to them/the mechanics and to us, the customers). Since matching the serial number and calibration code of the old PCM and the one intended to replace that) looks so crucial, may i inquire here: how was it all going alright with 4 engines replacing each other along 15 whole years (one of them was what they call here as the modern 2.4 L QUAD 4 engine having a slightly different bore size and a black fiber air induction manifold differing from the cast one in the rest of QUAD 4 engines)? No one ever mentioned the PCM all these years, just replace the engine and move on! The same PCM with its same EPROM had been controlling all those 4 engines so what was the PCM actually doing communicating with different engines using the same data in its EPROM? I am dazzled.

As long as the service code and information like the VIN- vehicle identification number is the same showing all correct information was transferred to the replacement PCM everything should be ok. Serial numbers will always be different part to part. Let us know when you receive the replacement PCM and install and we will go from there. As far as replacing the engine that is just secondary. The only job the PCM does is monitor and control all the sensors and modules on the actual engine and vehicle. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.

Thank you my dear friend. In most cases of those engine replacing, the mechanic would be using the same sensors, electronic ignition assembly and such.

As I stated before. The only job the PCM does is monitor and control all the sensors and modules on the actual engine and vehicle. The sensors on the engine are controlled by the PCM and monitored. Just consider the PCM to be the "brain" of the car that controls all the systems. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.

Yes my dear friend, in Iraq they all call the PCM just like that, '' AQIL'' meaning '' Brain''' in Arabic language/ most car mechanics in my country are dropouts who sense nothing in English so they use their own terms, some call the Phillips head screwdriver as /''ZAYID'' meaning '' plus sign'' while the typical flat head screwdriver is called '' NAQISS' meaning '' minus sign '' /! Funny, isn't it?!

Yesterday that man known as a PCM expert of Iraq called me and asked me whether the service warning light shows once I turn the switch to Ignition mode/not starting mode, but then turns off and on a few times later on. I told him that once I turn the switch on that light comes on and remains on until I be starting the engine where a few minutes pass before it gets off but then after many minutes of operation it is on again and that would be a bad omen to me since the engine starts shutting off RPMs drops down suddenly then resumes up and it takes a few minutes before it stalls completely.

The reason he asked you was this. The light should come on with the key in the on position. If it did not, then that means the ECM could be failing. Without that light coming on, it will not function correctly.

But he went in the other direction with his judging on the PCM! He said that as long as/ according to my observation/ the service light remained in steady on state all the time that the switch was in the ON position / ahead of starting the engine/experiencing no '' on- off'' cycle then / and it still is his own words/ the PCM is the reason my engine stalls. I need you to kindly assess his skill based on this diagnosis route of his.

He cannot tell that the ECM is the issue by what the light does at all. Special equipment is required to test the ECM to determine the failure.

The ECM is a guess at this point.

This was my misgiving and I wanted to make sure through you because my folks are famous for '' shooting rockets'' as they say: preaching without making sure of how exact is the content! Thanks a lot, I am waiting for the Genesys scanner to be bought and shipped to my address in Iraq awaiting my return to pick it.

If the check engine light is on or flashing there may be a fault code stored in your vehicles computer. It may not be ECM related. Let us know what happens after you install the replacement ECM and check for codes. Thanks again for using 2CarPros.

This urges me to shed some light here. Ahead of having this stalling problem , I had my transaxle repaired. It took them 3 times to repair damaged clutches, chain, some electromagnetic actuator and accumulators. The other mechanics whose role was to remove the transaxle/ and attach it after repair/ seem to have screwed something. This is why I went as deep as dismantling the whole harness around the engine compartment to check for any discontinuity or short circuit in addition to all that thread about coolant temperature sensor and sender units, etc. These guys are always known for being reckless and chaotic even with a donkey work task like removing a transaxle and just that. The friend who is to order that Genesys scanner is having a grave health issue with his wife so I quit pressuring him to hurry and buy it. Until such a scanner is at my hand I am destined to go on presuming this and that.

Once you get the scanner, you need to monitor the cam sensor and crankshaft sensor signals to see if they are dropping out causing it to stall.

Quite sure my dear. The symptoms had been most inclined to matching a crankshaft position sensor monkey business/ there seems to be no camshaft position sensor. By the way, does it make a difference with a replacement CPS that is a shiny steel one instead of the original one that was a dark skinned one?

No, it does not at all. Just a different manufacturer.
