Starter turns. No spark already changed the igniter coil, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Dash lights up normally when key is turned. Any ideas? Power to igniter coil okay.

Hi primojr,

Thank you for the donation.

Based on what you have described and replaced, the next thing you should check would be the Ignition Control Module.

Dash lights up and power is available during key on, but what about when cranking?

I have noticed my brake light and engine light come on and my cruise control goes off. I drive a 1991 Toyota Pick-up with a king cab, V-6 and 4X4. The problem has been an oddity untill yesterday when someone pulledout in front of me and I had to put on my brakes. My truck stereo went out and the engine died. I rolled to a stop and tried to restart it but all I got after a second was a clicking noise. It started with a jump but died after a mile and did the same thing. I have a new battery, and spark plugs, wires and distributer cap. I have 230,000 miles on the engine. Thank you for your help.

You need to pull the DTC's on it by finding the check connector and jumping terminal TE-1 to E-1, now count the flashes. get it confirmed and comeback with it.

My vehicle mostly will not start after a 15 minute drive. Once it cools down after 1-2 hours it starts fine. Any suggestions? Battery is charged and starter is new

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation,

I would start with a scan and check for any set fault codes, and i would have the coil tested as this is sounding like a coil or sensor over heating and causing the shut down, a scan may pick up a faulty sensor, it won't pick up a problem with the coil.

Hello, this may be a couple problems, I am not sure. I'll just take you through the symptoms in the order they started appearing. The vehicle is a 1991 Toyota Pickup, EFI, 4 cylinder, 5 speed manual. Thanks, and here we go!

1. It started idling especially high several month ago, when this started I could gun the gas a little (while in neutral) and the engine would calm down. Eventually this quick fix stopped working and...

2. Especially when the engine is cold, when not moving, in neutral or in a gear with the clutch pushed down the engine "surges", ranging from around 1k RPM and 2.5k RPM.

3. The heat started intermittently working

4. When cold, occasionally it wont turn over immediately, but if I was about 1 - 2 minutes after trying to start it, it starts.

5. It's now starting to overhead, riding the line between safe and warning on the gauge, and on occasion will shoot steam out of the radiator/coolant reservoir overflow (a small hose connects the reservoir and radiator, then a small piece of tubing continues past the reservoir, that's the overflow thats shooting steam.

Thanks so much for any help you can offer!!

I'm glad to hear you say that, that's what I was thinking too, but am not a big car person. Appreciate the help! I'll post in a couple weeks if it works.

1991 toyota pick 4 banger no frills. Drove fine all day last stop it to 5 turns of the keys to get it to fire. it stalled out when backing up then another 10 turns of the key to pull it back into the parking spot. It cranks but will not fire. There is a full tank of gas and oil in it and the battery seems fine.

Electrical problem
1991 Toyota Pickup V6 Four Wheel Drive Manual 169,00 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
my truck will shut itself off then on for a split second while driving. it lurches for a second as it push-starts itself while driving. could be any gear, speed, rpms, etc. sometimes it will not start when its warmed up in town. no noise from the starter, and the voltmeter on the dash drags a little but doesn't go dead when its glitching. i can always push start out of this, but sometimes it gets into a "mood" where it won't key start all afternoon for several stops in town, but then later it will key start normally. the battery has been tested as ok, the starter and alternator are new. using the clutch-start-cancel button on the dash doesn't help from the glitching start problem. surging while driving happens a few times a week, the startup problem is about every 20 hot starts. it ALWAYS starts first thing in the morning. coil? ignition?

I would start at the ignition switch, could be the coil or the distributor pick-up in the distributor.
