Sudden RPM surges - TPS issue

Okay, as per our last conversation, did you check the fuel pressure?

Yes, it could be the ECM but we need to be sure as that is an expensive guess.

What should the fuel pressure be?

The fuel pressure should be 40-45 pounds with the key on.

It should be 40 pounds running.

I did the fuel pressure test. I ran the test with the car is norma idle temperature. Attached are the notes that I took during the test. As you can see the pressure is low.

This will be the third time I'm replacing the fuel pump. Last month made 3 years I own the car. What could be making the pump go so often? Pep Boys changed the pump the last 2 times, could they be doing something wrong? They charge me for a new strainer and fuel filter each time they change the pump too. I use 89 octane and fill the tank when it gets to 1/4 tank.

What brand pump did they use? Ask them.

If they used a Carter pump, that is why. They are cheap and do not last long at all until they fail. They last just long enough to get out of warranty.

Both times Spectra brand was used. The warranty is good for as long as I own the car.

when they replace it again, have them check the tank for any debris. dirt and debris are the main cause of failure.
