Power steering replacement instructions needed

Okay. well, i did that and honestly this pipe has a loose fitting rubber hose around it from start to end that's and i can't see anything coming from.

Sorry that cut off. it's covered by a cloth like covering making seeing a leak impossible. however i see fluid wetness at the end of this cloth above the switch leading me to believe it's that line somewhere behind the rubber and cloth and not from the switch after all. what are your thoughts? Below are some pics.

Just to confirm we are talking about the same hose. You are seeing the one I am pointing to with moisture on it? If so, it looks like it is twisted as it should not be collapsed like that.

If you are seeing oil on it, then it needs to be replaced.

Yes, it's the same one. there's what feels like a metal line inside of it but you say it's not supposed to be collapsed like that though. well, good thing i have ordered it then. should have it by the 30th. so I will let you know from there. thank you so much for all your advice so far.

So i got the part today and was wondering if i have to take off the pump again to remove this line so i can replace it or do i not have to disconnect it?

It doesn't appear you need to take the pump off as there is a disconnection point at the ends of the lines.

Okay. so, i got the line disconnected at both ends but up at the top behind I'm guessing is the manifold its connected to it somehow by 1 or more bolts. i have included pics that a size 11 socket fits on but there's not enough room for a ratchet and a wrench can't get to. any suggestions? blew up the 2nd pic to see the bolt the 1st is showing the approximate location.

Do i need to remove this or do you have any instructions? my Haynes repair manual doesn't even talk about this line other than just disconnecting the end to the pump.

Yep. That bolt is going to secure the line so that it doesn't move around as it is most likely the pressure line.

The only suggestion I can make is to use an electric or air powered ratchet. That way you don't need to have any excess room. Short of that, you will need a gear ratcheting box end wrench with very fine teeth so that you can use the small amount of room you do have to get it to remove it.

I was planning on buying 1 of the ratchets but i tried 1of the wrenches and can't get it on there isn't that the back of the exhaust manifold where that bolts at.

And would a cordless 1 work verses the air kind?

Cordless is fine. You will need to use swivel sockets and extensions to get the proper angle if it won't fit directly onto the nut.

So i can tell this bolt seems to only go through the foil looking outer covering of the line by the top. can't i just cut that off?

I'm glad to say i think i'm leak free now. but I'm smelling burning fluid could this be from the old fluid leaks or even from the engine degreaser i used by chance? thank you so much for all your help.

Yes. I would take a hose and lay next to the vehicle and just spray down the area as best as possible. Then give it about twenty-five miles to burn off. Clearly if you continue to smell it or it gets stronger then we have an issue that needs to be investigated but I would expect there is oil all over the engine block that needs to be burned off.

However, we will need to start a new post for that if we have an issue there.

Okay, well I don't know if i said it before but on the high-pressure hose connection on the driver's side i dropped 1 of the new washers into the frame and so i used an old 1 in its place and drove it. few days noticed a small leak under that side so i took it to a shop had them look at it they said it was fine probably just old fluid burning off. a few days later there's a puddle on the passenger side. I've been working on so after having it looked at by another place, they say it's the rack leaking zo my? Now is this could the small ds leak be from the used washer and the ps b from the pump not being on completely right the ds never leaked before the line change or do you agree with the second shop it's my rack needing replaced?

I highly doubt that a used washer is causing the issue. That doesn't mean that this line or connection is not leaking but I have reused these washers and not had any issue. So, if you have someone else saying that the rack is leaking then I would suggest having them put it on the lift and then show you where they are seeing the leak. This way you can tell for sure what the issue is.

Well, they were not willing to show me where i bought a used one and now need to know the steps to remove the old one. can you tell me or do i and to start a new question?
