Heater problem
2002 Pontiac Grand Prix 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

This vehicle blows cold air. The fan knob is labeled 1-5. 1 being blowing low and 5 being the highest setting. The fan will only blow on 5. I replaced the control switch plate and that did not resolve the problem. What should I check next?

The blower motor resistor this one controls the speed for the blower motor from 1-5

Get at the blower motor wiring connector. With hvac turned on, check for voltage and ground at the wiring connector. If good voltage and ground with no blower action, suspect the blower motor.

To add, terminal A at the blower connector is voltage. Terminal B is ground. You can use a testlite between those two terminals, key on, hvac on, If the light comes on bright, you have good voltage and ground.

Inspect blower motor relay. Since it seems to be intemittent problem it may be faulty wiring to motor or possible blower motor is going bad. Hard to tell with intermittent problems until it completely fails.

Hello, might be the blower resistor, you can check for voltage on the yellow wire, low speed, at the resistor connector, with everything turned on, if there is no voltage, it's not the resistor.

It is either the switch on the console or the blower motor itself.

Check fuses also.

When I got it the heater and air conditioner both ran perfect. One day I got into my car and went to turn on the air conditioner but the fan would not come on no matter what setting it was on. I checked the fuses and they all look fine so I took out the blower motor and it was bad so I replaced it. The fan still wont come on and I have read that it could be the relay or resistor. We checked the voltage going to the blower motor and it shows very low no matter what setting I turn the fan to. I am not sure where to locate the relay or resistor or how to check to figure out what the problem is. Could you tell me what could be causing this and how to check?

It is manual and the temperature of the air will change according to where I set it so I can tell that my A/C and heater still work but the fan will not blow the air out.

According to my inforfmation, the only option for this car is an automatic syste. With an Autoo Temp control system, the blower speed is controlled by a blower speed control module. Both the power and ground are supplied by the module so that's a pretty strong indication that the module may be at fault. Be sure to the the BATT MAIN 4 fuse in the underhood fuse box. It's a 30 amp. The module will be located right next to the blower motor.
