Heater blower working only after hitting the dash. But finally quit. Fuse for Hvac is good. Got any good ideas, where next? Blower resistors or blower motor? Seen like a common problem.

Thanks

It sounds like the blower motor has gone out but to be sure here is a guide that will show you how to test for power and ground at the blower motor and how to replace it.

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers

A few months ago my blower for my a/c started to only turn on when I would hit a bump or travel over 60 mph. Now it will not turn on at all. Also, before all of this started, there was a static noise coming from the passenger side of my car that would come on and off when I hit a bump. It would remain on even when I turned the car off. However, this static noise stopped when I started having the a/c issue. Is this an electrical problem? Is it expensive to fix?

Do you have an Auto Temp Control system?
You did say that there was a period when it would still run with the key OFF, right?

hi
sounds like it could be a blower motor going out/worn out. do you do any work on cars yourself or family?

The static noise is what stayed on with the car off, not the a/c. No there is no auto temp control. The static noise might have nothing to do with the a/c problem. I just thought it might be helpful.

Heater problem
2004 Pontiac Grand Prix 6 cyl Automatic 103000 miles

I live in wyoming and the winters are very cold around here. I drive a 2004 Grand prix gt. I went and washed my car and it was probley in the 20 degree range outside. Maybe an hour or so after i washed it my heater all the sudden wouldnt come on. It wouldnt blow any hot air or any air at all for that matter. Could my blower motor be frozen up from washing my car in such cold weather? or could it be a fuse? i need help

Find the blower motor -turn heater on bang on the blower motor a few times-did it come on if not could be fuse/blower motor relay/control switch/HVACcontrol module/motor control processor/ and motor itself.

Welcome to the forum, I'd have to get at the blower motor connector. With key and hvac turned on, check for voltage and ground at the connector. If that checks out, I suspect a faulty blower motor. Any fuses you check, use a testlite on the fuse circuit, make sure the circuit is hot.

My blower fan does not work(for ac or heat) I hear it, it just doesn't blow. It used to start working again when I pounded the dashboard, now it does not. Where is this heater box duct? Also, to check for 12 volts of power, how do I do this?

Check batt main fuse 4-- 30 amp, in the underhood fuse box. Use a testlite, the circuit should be hot all the time. If that checks out, I'd have to get at the blower motor connector and check for voltage and ground.

The blower fan works intermitantly. When it is not working, if I hit the right side of the center dash (where the controls are located) it starts working. It also starts working if I hit a bump or pot hole. If it is the control module (contains 3 dial switches and the rear dfrost and air conditioner button) is there any way to test it?

Welcome to the forum. Have all trouble codes checked, see if anything points to the hvac system. I'd get at the blower motor connector, everything turned on, check for voltage and ground. If no voltage, I backtrack the circuit. Test when the blower refuses to run.

Check the fuse circuits, use a testlite, circuits should be hot. The bat main fuse is under the hood.

The blower motor on my 2004 Grand Prix stopped working the other day. It had been a little noisy on low speeds for some time now. I pulled the cover off and tapped the blower motor and it came on. Good so far but is it going or is there some other problem?

Also I havent had very hot air coming out for quite some time. Do you think heater core ot thermostat?

as far as the motor, it sounds like it is going bad. The heat issue is different. Make sure the engine is running at a normal operating temp, make sure the coolant is full, feel both heater core hoses when the engine is hot, running, and the heater is on. Both hoses should be hot. If they are, chances are the blend door needs adjusted. If only one is hot, flush the heater core.

The motor is under the right side of the dash. When it is not working, give it a good whack to see if it starts up again. if so it needs a new motor.

At times my heater fan and rear window defogger do not work. Seems if when you turn key slowly to start position more often than not my problems are worse. At times seems no way to get it to work at all. Very intermittent. Different keys do not seem to make a difference.

The only parts common to both systems are the ignition switch, power distribution center and the HVAC control module. As you did not state other problems like lights/stereo/other systems we can rule out the ignition switch as it also controls the power to all the rest.
Next the power distribution center also could be an issue, however it is very unlikely.

So let's start with checking the fuses, both items are high power draw so the fuse contacts in the panel could be failing. Unplug them and look to see if the contacts on the fuse or in the box are a different color (usually they will be silver, if they are failing they turn grey, blue or black)
Fuses in the under-hood fuse block.
Fuse 4 Batt Main 2 (60 A) - feeds the rear defroster
Fuse 3 Headlamps (60 A) - also feeds the heater blower.
Fuse 29 HVAC/RKE (10 A) - feeds the HVAC module

Instrument panel fuse block
R-Defog fuse (30 A)
DIC/HVAC fuse (10 A)
HVAC CTRL fuse (20 A)
HVAC HI fuse (30 A)

If none of these are blown the likely culprit is the HVAC control module. They are a problem issue on many GM vehicles. Some are repairable if you know how to solder and can find the correct info online. Or you just replace it. It is the part with the heater/defroster controls in the dash. Not really difficult to replace.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BOdhWMdxXc
as an example, just use the correct part !

The resistor is located just forward of the blower motor its self. 3 screws only lossen the 2 forward ones, remove the aft one and slide towards you. If your Fan doesnt work on high I dont believe it would be the resistor. high goes straight to the motor relay and then to the blower motor. just suggesting it sounds like you may need a new blower motor.

The A\C switch doesn't blow at all on settings 1 and 2 but works fine on the rest of the settings. Any ideas? Also, I would like to try to fix this myself but not sure what the best service manual is for this so suggestions would be great and thanks ahead of time.
