Engine Cooling problem
1995 Honda Civic 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 170,00 miles

i ran over a quite a few large rocks. busted a hole in the tranny casing in my honda civic 95 lx. anyway my brother dropped the transmission out and put a new one in. but now the fan is not working right and is overheating the car. he has hooked it to the battery and then it works fine. could i have knocked something loose? where should we start looking?

Check the operation of the fan switch located on the thermostat housing (a 2 pin harness connector) That is most likely your problem with regards to the fan problem.

Hi there,

you will need to get the coolant topped up and get to a mechanic that can do a cooling system pressure test, this will locate any external coolant leaks, hopefully you have done no damage and it can be fixed quickly.

Engine Cooling problem
1995 Honda Civic 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 83000 miles

my coolant is going into the overflow tank even when the engine is not hot but it stays there and does not return to the radiator. I have a new thermostat and water pump, no apparent leaks, what could be the problem

Hi there,

get the pressure cap tested, or just replace it as i feel that this will be your problem.

With out knowing more details the first thing to check is Coolant loss, Cooling fan operation, Thermostat operation, Radiator radiator cap water pump.
