REMOVAL:
Disconnect the negative battery cable and relieve the fuel system pressure.
Siphon or pump as much fuel as possible out through the fuel filler pipe.

Fuel injected vehicles have reservoirs inside the fuel tank to maintain fuel near the fuel pick-up during cornering or low-fuel operation. These reservoirs could block siphon hoses or tubes from reaching the bottom of the fuel tank. Repeated attempts, using different hose orientations, can overcome this obstacle.

Raise and safely support the vehicle.
If equipped, remove the skid plate attaching bolts, then lower the plate and remove it.

On Explorer/Mountaineer models, the front fuel tank strap is bolted to the skid plate and will be disconnected when the plate is removed.

Disconnect the fuel fill and vent hoses connecting the filler pipe to the tank.
On vehicles equipped with a metal retainer fastening the filler pipe to the fuel tank, remove the screw holding the retainer to the fuel tank flange.
Disengage the fuel lines and the electrical connections to the fuel tank sending unit/fuel pump assembly. On some vehicles, these are inaccessible on top of the tank. In this case, they must be disconnected when the tank is partially lowered.
Place a safety support (such as a floor jack) under the fuel tank and remove the bolts from the fuel tank straps. Allow the straps to swing out of the way. Be careful not to deform the fuel tank.

On Ranger vehicles, the rear fuel tank strap has two connections which must be unbolted.

Lower the tank a few inches, then detach the fuel lines and electrical connection from the sending unit/fuel pump assembly, if required.
Remove the tank from the vehicle.

First needs to be as empty as possible. You will need special release tools to get the fuel lines off the tank unit.I would suggest you have some help under there unless you plan on unbolting the bed and moving it back (have seen people do this) I also recommend using a factory pump, replacing the relay and filter at the same time

My ranger broke down on me today, I thought it might of been that i ran out of gas but I didn't. The tow truck drive thinks it might be the fuel pump, Im hoping its the fuel filter. I really can't afford to replace a fuel pump. Would you be able to tell me where I can find the fuel filter In my 1995 Ford Ranger? also any other info you might think I might need?

Thanks For your help....

Fuel filter is under vehicle, driver side, below seating area, mounted on frame in fuel line. Can you hear fuel pump come on when first turning ignition?

First, drop the gas tank, unplug the connections, use a spanner wrench to remove the lock ring, or a hammer and BRASS punch. Pull out the old pump, dissconnect the wires, noting where the go, install new pump...reinstal lock ring, plug in the connector, install the tank! Try to remove all but about 1 gallon of gas, or the tank will be HEAVY!

will need to test for proper fuel pressure and good spark. if both OK check compression in cylinders. if compression is low then check for a broken timing belt.

I have replaced the fuel pump and have 40 lbs at the rail. I have also checked all fuses and I have a good injector pulse. The truck ran great untill it sat up for about a year.It will fire right up with a shot of ether, but dies immediately after the ether is gone.It is a 3.0 with a distributor.

if it's not getting fuel it can be the eec could be bad or it could be a ground going to it. so clean your groundsit shold be a black wire. there also is a eec power relay and that could not be letting the eec power up so check that as well......

if you have an injector pulse then you probbly have an injector problem. butyou would need good pulses at all of them and they need to be tested with a noid light.

Most fuel pumps are generic but I am not sure if the pump would fit. The only way to find out is to remove and compare them visually.

You can check with the junk yards, they should be able to tell you.

I have only checked one injector with a light for pulse, the easiest one to get at. What would be my next move if I get a good pulse from all six injectors? Would one or two bad injectors stop the engine from at least trying to start?

No, they will not work. they are quite different. The later models use a module controlled, variable pressure pump system.

wellyou could have a rich or lean conditions when they stop.i am assuming you have already checked this vehicle for codes as this may be the cause as well if this has anti theft and it has locked the system. that needs to be checked out as well.

Yes I have scanned the vehicle and there are no codes except all systems pass code. This vehicle has no anti-theft system. So if I do get a good pulse at all injectors what do you suggest I look at next? I thank you for your prompt replies and your patience.

i really dont' know what to do, if youa re getting apulse thene the injectors should work unelss theyare all bad and i kind of doubt that. not having it to look at all i can suggest is to check resistance in injectors. otherwise have apro look at it.

My truck sometimes wants to rev up to 3000rpm while driving. Never when stopped. If i push the clucth it will rev high to 3000 and when i release clutch i can feel the truck pulling itself without me adding fuel. I have replaced fuel pump. Filter. Iac. Tps. Relays. I even did a warranty swap on the iac and tps to see i had gottwn faulty ones. Still same issue.
