Engine wont start
2000 FORD MUSTANG
Advertisement
If the engine can turn by hand, check the oil sending unit. It may be shutting the engine down.
My mustang sat undriven for a few weeks. It started fine and drove for 2 days. On the third day, it started, but when I reached my first destination, it wouldn't start. An hour later, it started. Now it wont start at all. I added some water remover to the gas tank today on advice from an auto parts store, but still no luck. I purchased a fuel filter, but not sure where it is located to change. Any advice?

Your fuel filter is located underneath the trunk on the passenger side. It is between the tank and the quarter panel. Since the car is fuel injected, the fuel system is pressurized. You will need to de-pressurize it before changing the filter. A Haynes or Chilton manual will take you through the process. It's not too complicated. Good luck.

We need to determine if the engine is bad. At the bottom front is the crank pulley. There is a large bolt in the center. Use a breaker bar and socket on that bolt to see if the engine turns.

You won't have any trouble, but if you do, CJ and I will be here to help. Let us know if you have any questions or run into trouble.
We talked about your car. It is odd for the oil pressure to have spikes and the noise is odd too. We need to know if something has locked the engine up like a bad bearing, or if something else has happened.
It is odd for the oil pressure to MAX as you described. There is pressure regulator on the oil pump, but they rarely go bad. Most people don't even know they exist because they are so dependable.
Try to see if you can turn the bottom pulley as we described. In CJ's picture above, he took the picture from the ground looking up. See which is the easiest way to access the pulley, from top of bottom. Also, he used a standard box end wrench rather than a socket and breaker bar. Use what best works for you.

I get notified every time ya'll post--no magic formulas to do this--we are trying to rule out major engine damage
When you return, please describe the squeal, about the location it came from, how long the noise lasted, how loud, has your oil level been close to correct, how much oil you have added to bring it back up to the correct level (at one time)....lets say in the past 2 months (basically how low has it ever gotten?)
No need to cover anything up, we cannot assist, if we do not have all of the facts!

scan for codes and check fuel pressure with a gauge auto parts rent it. red hot converters mean it's running lean so look for a vacuum leak as well , line off /broken.

Hi:
This can be caused by many things. Before we guess and start replacing good parts, take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scann the computer for codes. They will do it for free.
Let me know what you find.
If nothing is found, start with the fuel pressure. Have the fuel pump pressure checked.

My car will start and run but wont move, why?
I have a 2000 Ford Mustang. Its a 4-Speed Automatic Coupe It's been sitting in the drive way for a while. Today i crank to the car to take it around the block and its starts and runs but wont move. I can change gears and when i put i reverse it did easy back, but that's probably because we are on a hill. Please help.

Check the transmission fluid level and condition if okay-Maybe the transmission range sensor input signal to the computer is missing-Your best bet is just bring it in and have it further checked-

My son has a 2000 mustang GT, as he was slowing down for a stop sign and lost all power to the car, (brakes, power steering, all electrical). Flat bedded it to the house and found the battery dead, thought it was from him cranking it over, charged battery over night, found it dead again, charged it up and tried to start it but all it did is crank real slow and back fire out the exhaust. The engine is a 4.6 distributorless system with coil over plugs. OBD2 scanner codes are
P1451, P0135, P0141, P0155, P0161, P0443.

The p01xx codes are all oxygen sensor related. The two other codes are purge valve related problems. I suspect that these codes were set when the engine was cranking and fuel was dumping into the cylinders "without firing". First determine if there is spark -- if not check the ignition module and all related ignition electronics. If there is spark, then look for a fuel problem and/or a wiring problem around the o2 sensors.. Reset the computer and see what codes return..

I have a new battery and new starter. Yet the engine still will not turn over. The voltiage on the battery drops blow 9.6 when trying to start. It gets as low as 8 volts. Any ideas what is wrong?

Load test the battery again-it should hold up above 9.6volts while being loaded and do a voltage drop on the cables and make sure its properly tightened If it continues do a starter draw test.

I just put a body kit on my mustang gt and for some reason now the car won't start I think it might be the hose by the right rear tire but I don't know what to do with it

Its the one by the right rear tire it was connected to the back bumper and when I took it off the back bumper I didn't think it would hurt anything and I put the little black piece back on and it still doesn't work. That's the only thing I could think of, I didn't touch anything else

Check the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure tester and report back your actual recorded readings with and w/o the fuel pressure regulator-also check the fuel pump relay and the inertia switch

Car motor would turn over with ease but would not fire in the morning. Later that day turned over a few times then started up and ran great. Took to local place and they said battery so put in new battery. Next day ran great to work but would not start again when ready to leave work. Finally started and ran great but afraid of being stranded. What do you think?

2000 mustang gt 4.6 that will turn over but will not start. Has sat for 2 mos. or so and started fine before that. I have checked the 2 fuses for the fuel pump that I've found.

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine at least 3/16 away from ground -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem,Do you hear the fuel pump come On when you turn key on? If not check fuel pump fuse and fuel pump relay if so, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it.

Hi i have a 2000 ford mustang gt and i was going home the car turned off kept rolling, wheel locked, brake wouldn't go down, gas pedal went all the way down and it wouldn't start then i waited and started back up it was fine but 5 minutes down the road it cut off again and didn't start. It also slips in to another gear sometimes. Someone told me its the timing belt i don't know but can you please help because i don't want to take it to get fixed and the people say its something else no one can tell me what is wrong it just rattles and ticks real bad.please help and thanx for all you're help in advance

you dont have a timing belt. forget what this person said.
you need to have the fuel pressure checked. it sounds like it could be the pump but you need it confirmed by a shop.
the wheel was stiff from no power steering and the brakes were hard from the vacuum not there from the engine.
get a shop to check it for you and get back to us with there results, then we can give you an idea if there estimate of repairs makes sense.
