P0705 is a fault with the Transmission Range Sensor and can be due to a faulty sensor, its wiring or a bad PCM.

As to Code 661 and 663, I am not able to find ant reference to them. Are they OBD-II codes ? Where did you get them from?

P0461, P0462 and P0463 are all related to the Fuel Level Sensor A circuit.

Is the fuel gauge accurate or acting strangely?

If not, reconfirm the trouble code. Go back to Autozone and ghet them to recheck the trouble code. After printing it out, reconfirm the codes are correct.

It is not totally correct. I will go back to autozone and confirm the codes. Thanks for your help. Any problems I'll be sure to contact you for your help.

finally had scan and the code is po704. Now this is a sensor, what does it do, where is located, and what would be the cost?

This code is not correct. Yours is an automatic trnsmission and this code is for a manual transmission clutch pedal position switch.

P0705 was explained to you previously, it is a fault with the range sensor, meaning the PRNDL switch.

Diagnostic test have to be carried out to determine what is wrong and a scan tool would make the job easier. Would you be able to perform testings with a DVOM?

How longcan I go before this problem gets worst. Right now don't seem to be anythng wrong other than the engine light is on after the scan removed the code and the check transmission shows up on the instrument panel. Not sure I understand what a DVOM test is. Thanks for your answering so quickly.

If an error has been detected, it is best to get it resolved asap. Any fault can damage the transmission if it is not taken care of. It is not possible to gauge how long before problem worsens.

It would depend on what is wrong. This component is a switch and first you need to check the wiring. Note if the wire harness connector is clean and secure first. Try wiggling th connector to see if it helps. Disconnect the connector and check for signs of contaminations.

I think I located the switch it ws on top of the trans on the driver side and has only elect lines (wrapped) comming out the top. Plactics around it was very briddle and did not want to go any further although I did wiggle it some, if I got the right location.

Yes, that is the switch. Since the wires are brittle, there could be a fault with the terminals. You would have to disconnect the connector and check for contaminations.

I was driving home form LA to Las Vegas when the engine lite went on. I stopped to see what the matter was and it wouldn't idle. As long a RPM's are high it doesn't stall.

First thing you need to do is have the codes read, Autozone does it free, Post the results with the code number(s). Even if the service engine light is not on, there should be freeze frame data stored.
If it won't make it to Autozone, buy a cheap scanner, they can be had for 30-40 dollars, a good investment, since they cover all cars sold in the USA from 96 on...
If the light is blinking, it means engine misfire, possible damage to the converter...service it right away!

Is the trouble code still present?
After repairs and resetting the computer, it requires some running time before the various monitors becomes ready.

The code is for catalyst efficiency below threshold and usually it means a bad catalytic converter for bank 2.

Thank you. Would it be wise to have a complete electronic diagonic test ran on the vehicle noting the problems? Would you recommend that I change just the cat or would you recommend other parts with the cat?

DTC P0430: CATALYST SYSTEM EFFICIENCY BELOW THRESHOLD (BANK 2)

Description:

Indicates the bank 2 catalyst system efficiency is below the
acceptable threshold.

Possible Causes:

a) Use of leaded fuel
b) Damaged heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)
c) Out of range engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor
d) High fuel pressure
e) Damaged exhaust manifold
f) Damaged catalytic converter
g) Oil contamination
h) Cylinder misfiring
i) Downstream HO2S wires improperly connected
j) Damaged exhaust system pipe
k) Damaged muffler/tailpipe assembly
l) Retarded spark timing
m) Leaking fuel injector

Check through the above and note if anyting is out of specs, starting with the easiest and if none found then you would have to replace the catalytic converter.

I have a 2006 Ford Taurus with 78,000 km which uses a regular 87 octanes gasoline. From time to time the "check the engine" light turns on. My mechanic checked the car with the tester and the diagnosis was "multiple misfire 1,000 km ago". The light turned on just 50 km before I went to the mechanic. He told me that this was not a serious problem but rather an usual behaviour in Ford cars? . The car drives and run normally all the time and then suddenly the check the engine light turns off. This has happened 4 or 5 times in the last 6 months(11,000 km mileage).
Is it safe to drive the car and don't take care of this warning light?

Thanks,

The reason the light is coming on is because there is a problem. It isn't common for Fords to have a misfire unless there is an ignition problem, electrical problem, or it is in need of a tune up.

Please explain what is happening, have the computer rescanned, and let me know what the code is. Chances are it needs a tune-up or some other simple item.

When I connect my code reader and turn the ignition on, the code reader says linking then fails. It appears the code reader can't read the codes. Horn fuse is ok, if thats the fuse used for the hookup.

Are you sure the scanner is good? Does it work on another vehicle? Also, many code readers only read engine codes. This could be a different code for the transmission or other component.
