Engine not starting?

van was running & starting fine. turned it off & now will not start. have put new fuel pump, new fuel filter, new distribulator modual. Will not spray gas. turns over . if pour gas in carberator it will run. but will not put the gas in by itself
if you don't have any ignition then your tbi wont put fuel in engine go to how to repair on site here an dlook how to check your ignition still cold be pick up coil in dist or something else.

hey guys still having a problem with my van its still having a no start no crank issue its got a new battery and starter so when i turn the key i just hear a single click from the starter also the panel lights go off and on an the radio dims any ideas to diagnosis this maybe something in the cables between the battery and starter

Your engine isnt froze, is it? Can you turn the crankshaft by hand?
Use a digital multimeter across battery posts, everything off, the generic spec for a full charge is around 12.6 volts. If the battery is down, you have to get it charged or we cant do any testing.
Did you try jumper cables to see if it would crank?

ya the battery was dead so i put in a new one how do you turn the crankshaft by hand??

You should be able to turn it at the flywheel or the front end of crankshaft.

You should be able to use a screwdriver on the flywheel teeth to see if it will turn.

ok well i went to go test my battery i disconnected the negative side a few days ago and just connected it back up then my alarm went off it has not been able to do that in years what do you think that means?? do you the alarm is the power problem

I looked at G10 van. There is no security system on the starter circuit. Since you put the new battery on, will it crank?
The flywheel is on rear of engine. You access from underneath the vehicle. Probably a flywheel cover you would have to remove. The starter drive gear engages the flywheel teeth.

the alarm went off when i touched and connected the negative cable to new battery and no it still would not crank just clicks at the starter

ok here's the problem ive been having first i have a 1993 chevy g20 van few months ago i tried starting it all i could hear is a click from the starter so i bought new starter and replaced it then heard the same click so i thought maybe it was the battery so i replaced that too but same click no start, no crank so i was thinking something in the cables between the starter and the battery but i could not see any broken or cut wires could there be a cut or broken wire in the cable? what about a fusable link? also my van has an old alarm system that the way it is wired in order to sart my van i have to turn the key hit the butten on the remote that enagages the alarm an activates the locks then i can turn the key all the way then it starts so maybe the alarm is keeping it from starting not sure. ideas?

check for voltage to the little wire on the starter motor when it start position.

If the engine isnt froze up, check for good voltage at the starter, with key in the crank position. Have a helper turn the key. Any testing at the starter, make sure the tranny is in park or neutral and the parking brake is set.
If all that checks out, have the starter tested. Some of the national brand autostores will test the starter for you, if you take it off and take it to them.
If you have an aftermarket security system hooked into the starter circuit, I cant trouble shoot that, my wiring diagram is factory wiring.

I did a battery alternator an starter bench test they checked put good also used a voltameter drop test everything looks good but there is a live circuit somewhere that is damning my battery how can I test my battery an starter cables to see if there is a open circuit somewhere draining my power? Also,what about my alarm you think it could be causing an issue where the engine can't crank over?

once again, lets start with seeing if there is power going to the solenoid in the start position.

Ok well I had my brother in law test the starter with the voltameter while I turned the key an tried to crank it he says it's out putting 10 volts an I just hear a click like the starter is trying to kick out not sure what the next step is. Ideas?

voltage is low but should engage the starter solenoid.
is the battery 10 volts too when trying to crank??? you should have 12 volts there

its a new battery i put it in a fews days ago so it shouldnt be a power issue on the battery but i can always double check i think its the cabling in between some live curcuit thoughts??

Hey still having the same problem just hearing a click in the starter I do I find the live circuit that seem to be draining my power what if I could disable the alarm? I'm new at this so how do you test cables to determine if there is enough power drawing from them to the components

My vechicle seems to be using to much gas, I changed the plugs to pulstar cb1. Before that it seemed flooded, wouldn't start for days till I OPENED the choke all the way,want to know best ay to resolve this.Thanks guys

If it actually have a carbuerator and the choke plate is partially open it will use fuel -You need to adjust the choke initial opening and the fast idle cam.

After sitting for a few weeks cngine does not start. Starts up at first and then dies immediately. After sitting for a while it will do the same thing. Starts up but dies right away. Happened about a month ago and I keep starting it and gradually it would run for a little longer each time. Finallly started up and stayed running - after that it ran fine for two to three weeks. Now it has sat thru the Christmas vacation and when I tried to start it it started for a few seconds and then stopped. Trying to start it right after that it just cranks and does not start. I let it sit for an hour and a half and it did the same thing.

Had similar problem with a ford and dodge van- both times was a fuel pump . Fuel is probably draining from motor back to tank, so each time you are basically starting with the gas in carb. only and having to pull fuel up to motor each time from the tank. Check your screws on carb. (don't overtighten) and lines for leaks.
