There is a sensor is about $38.00 on the side of the radiator that needs to be replaced. Here is a guide to show you how to drain the coolant before you begin:

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Six cylinder front wheel drive automatic.

A week ago my low coolant light came on. At first I did not understand what it is for. One night while driving my car started to run hot and it started to smoke. Somebody informed me that it was because of no antifreeze. A week prior to this my heat stopped working as well. So when I put the antifreeze in it started to leak. What could be the initial problem? I am hearing that it could be from a leak in my radiator, I might need a new thermostat, or something about my hoses. Can you please help me out if possible?

My coolant low light flashes for a while then as I ride it stays on. When I check it has enough in it, but the hose from the radiator is tight and the hose coming from the fan is also.

The level sensor attached to the bottom of the coolant tank is probably faulty and sending false signal.

Hi Gentlemen. The low coolant light just started staying on a week ago. Sometimes it also blinks intermittently. I never overheated it, but my daughter just used it and said it did not on her either. Coolant overflow is full, no apparent leaks, no sweet smell from exhaust. Please help. Thanks, Gordon Pittsburgh Pa.

Have you checked the sensor and its wiring? Should be near the top of the radiator. If you have an ohmmeter, you might check the sensor and replace if resistance is infinite.

Just replaced intake manifold gasket, radiator, water pump, thermostat and hoses. It keeps running hot and leaking antifreeze. Check engine light and low coolant light just popped on and to top it off my heater is blowing out cold air.

Where is it leaking antifreeze from? Sounds like that leak needs to be fixed.
Heater blowing cold air is probably due to no or low coolant.

Check your heater hoses and check also inside of cab. Start to check all coolant lines from radiator to radiator. When you change parts I think you forgot to connect one coolant hose.

My low coolant light has just started to flash when the car is registering a normal temp. My husband has checked the coolant level which is normal, the coolant looks bright green. I have owned the car 3 years and the low oil light has been on since then, regular maint, no other issues. Six months ago the oil light went out and the brake light came on and has stayed on. Now when the Low Coolant light comes on it is after the brake light has gone out. I know I have been reading the repair guide too much, but I am wondering if this is an electrial problem. Car runs and sounds great! Thanks so much for your help. I love my car.

Try checking the harness the plugs into the reservior for a poor connection of corrosion. Also try tapping and the sensor to see if the light reacts. You may have a defective sensor even though it is new.

If the probe on the coolant sensor has accumulated crud, that will stop it from giving a proper reading. The sensor is cheap to buy and easy to replace.

Engine Cooling problem
1998 Chevy Lumina 4 cyl Automatic 61000 miles

I have just noticed a few days ago that my Low Coolant light is flashing. Not a steady light but a flashing one. The engin is not running hot acording to the gage in side the car and it seems to be running like normal. I did check the coolant level and i was told i should add some since it was low (below the cool mark but not empty) . I did and added the correct kind according to the manuel. However the light continues to flash. It happens almos right after starting it up.

Could there be just a short? could the system not be working correctly? ( i have found no leaks) . Is this something I need to have someone take a look at?

Thank you
Heather

Engine Cooling problem
1999 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My low coolant light keeps blinking, but I have plenty of coolant in my car. What can it be? My temperature gauge also does not seem to be working.

When engine is cold remove radiator cap and make sure the coolant is full.

If so, then the low coolant sensor may be bad. The temp. gauge sender may also be bad. Check all fuses first and make sure the coolant is full.

You may be better of having the cooling system flushed and fresh coolant added.

If equipped with Dex-Cool, it may have sludged up and caused a blockage or the sensors to not read correctly.

when your driving the coolant may be having a problem circulating through the system. This could be caused by a bad water pump or air in the coolant lines, or maybe a stopped up heater core

There could be a problem with the coolant level sensor. This is a fairly common cause of this type of problem. Another thing to check is that the wiring is all in good condition and the connection is clean and tight.

The low coolant light keepls blinking, the radiator is not low, the ovre-flow bottle is OK and the temp. gauge is normal. Could this be just the electrical problem with the light? Is there any way the water may not be circulating like is should and the light blinks because of that?

There is a coolant level sensor on the side of the radiator. It is fairly common for them to go bad. If you don't mind the blinking light just check your coolant once in a while(thats the way we done it before we had cars tellin us=)... otherwise you may have to replace the sensor, assuming the wiring is not broken.
