Engine overheating
1998 CADILLAC DEVILLE

Engine cooling temperatured is running from 220- 238 degrees. Water pump and thermostat appear to be working. There is no cooland loss, however engine smells hot when you turn it off. Acouple of times I have noticed the cooling fans a running after engine was turned off. What should the normal operating temperature be for this vehicle. I live in S. Florida where daytime temperatures are in the low 90's.
195-210 would be the range. Has the thermostat been replaced? Also a radiator that has lost 10 to20% of it's cooling efficency can bump temp up 30 degrees.Check for debris on condensor and rad.

Engine Cooling problem
1998 Cadillac Deville V8 Automatic 146193 miles
i have a 1998 cadillac deville. Just started overheating the other day. it needs refrigerant, but fans not kicking on at all. i let the car run for an hour never overheated. soon as i drive for 5 or ten minutes it overheats. overflow tank had small hole. i changed the radiator, tank and thermostat what could the problem be. I have no leaks but overflow tank bubbles on inside has a lot of backpressure!!!! what could be the problem????

Have the system block tested for combustion gases in the cooling system. Indications of an internal leak i.e. head gasket.

Could be a head gasket or could be pulled head studs.
It sounds like pulled head studs to me as if you can let it idle and no problem but as soon as you drive it it overheats.

Engine Cooling problem
1998 Cadillac Deville V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic
Coolant/antifreeze is constantly low. Car overheat all the time. I had a new water pump, new cap, and theromstat installed. The car is stilll running hot after driving.

If your coolant is constantly low, then it has to be going somewhere.
Run your engine at idle while in park for 20 minutes after topping off the coolant. If you see the coolant on the ground, then find out exactly where it's leaking from and repair that.
If there's no visible sign of leakage, but the coolant is still being used up, then it's leaking inside of the motor and going either into the oil or out of the tail pipe.
this means you have a blown head gasket. (Once your engine overheats, it's common for the head gasket to blow)
