I have a question regarding another 2001 Honda Civic I have. It is an automatic, the key flashes constantly on the dash. Which is the immobilizer, but from what I have researched, if that continues to flash, the car will not start. This car starts, but acts like it is in limp mode and cannot go over 45 mph.

When I use my key to get into my carthe alarm goes off. My keyless entry remote is not working and I tried a new battery and it still doesnt work. When I put the key in the dorr to unlock it, the alarm goes off. It will stop after a few seconds. Then I get in and when I put the key in the ignition, the alarm goes off again. Do I need a new keyless entry? If so where can I get it for cheap? And sdo I have to get it programmed to my car? If not, whats wrong with my car??

Hi acroxford,

I would suggest reprogramming the remote to see if it helps.

DISARMING SECURITY SYSTEM

Without Remote Transmitter (EX, HX & LX)
Enter vehicle, turn ignition switch to ON position and press disarm/valet button located on left side of dash. The disarm switch will also disarm the system after alarm has been triggered.

PROGRAMMING
REMOTE TRANSMITTERS

NOTE: Up to 3 transmitter codes can be stored in keyless receiver unit memory. If a fourth code is entered, the first code stored will be erased. It is important to maintain time limits between steps, otherwise process will need to be repeated.

1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Within 1-4 seconds, aim transmitter at vehicle and push lock or unlock button. Within 1-4 seconds, turn ignition switch off.
2. To program next transmitter, within 4 seconds, repeat step 1 . Confirm that door lock actuators can be heard every time a transmitter code is entered.
3. Within 4 seconds after programming last transmitter, turn ignition switch to ON position. Within 8 seconds, aim transmitters at vehicle and press lock or unlock buttons. Confirm door lock actuator operation after each transmitter entry. Turn ignition switch off. Remove key and confirm proper operation of transmitters.

I put the car in the garage over the winter. Did not run it. Tried to start it. Dead. Used my wife's car to jump me. Did not work. In fact, it set off the alarm that I inactivated several years ago. So, went to Walmart and bought a new battery. The old one had expired. Installed the battery, went I put the positive and negative connections the alarm went off again. I can now shift the gears, use the wipers, windows, etc. Before I could not even shift gears. Every time I touch the car or bump it the alarm is set off. If I open the door it sets it off. I can insert the key and shift gears, but, it will not turn over. Could there be another problem that I am not
seeing? Alternator or what? I appreciate any direction on this. Thank you.

Hi GORDON,

Is the alarm an aftermarket unit? If so it is in full swing and you need to remove it. If it is a factory alarm the module has shorted out and needs to be replaced.

Let me know what you find

Hi Jimish81,

When engine is running, the security system cannot be activatd unless the power from the ignition is interupted.

Are you sure it is the security system that is locking or the engine stalled ?

If it is locking, I would suggest checking the ignition switch.

Is the alarm factory or after market?

When engine is started (or ignition is turned ON), the alarm system would be notified via power supply from the ignition switch and be disarmed. Your problem should be this voltage signal is not received by the alarm control unit and after 4-5 seconds the alarm self-arms.

While braking, one of the doors switch is activated, possibly due to door out of adjustment and the door switch is barely pushed. Door movement during braking would cause the switch to activate thus triggering the alarm.

Does the door ajar/dome light flickers during braking or uneven road driving conditions?

The keyless entry gizmo has started to work intermittantly. There is no pattern to the problem. It sometimes works and sometimes does not. It doesn't matter where I stand; in front, in back, either side, or close or farther away. I have replaced the battery twice just in case I may have gotten a bad one...no change. Any thoughts?

I had an issue like this with my original keyless fobs that came with the car when I bought it in 00. I recently (about a year ago) replaced my fobs with one from an eBay store - used, but had a new battery included - and that seems to work a lot better - and I get better range too.

It seems like it's a different "model" of keyless fob, perhaps for the 01 model or they just updated the original 00 model, but it works pretty well, very pleased with the 30 bucks I spent on the new fob.

alarm from my friend which is called CNSAC. Some of the wires on the alarm diagram i have no idea where to connect them to. Here is a picture of the wiring diagrams, i labeled each wire with numbers on the alarm wiring diagram and letters on the car wiring diagram so it will be easier.

Ok so here is what i know:
1=k
3=l
8=h
9=r
10 = ground
11 = a
12 = j
13 = j

Here is what i dont know:
14,15,16,17,18,19

Here is what i dont think i need:
4,5,6,7 because that is just to shut off the engine in case of theft correct?
2 because i am using 3 since it is a negative door trigger

If you do not have even a slight click while turning the key, it most probably is not the starter or battery. The immobilizer would be the cause.

Try using a remote wire to jump the starter solenoid with battery voltage to test if it cranks.

TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING Insert ignition key into ignition switch. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Within 10 seconds, press and hold valet switch for at least 5 seconds. See Fig. 1 . The sound of lock actuators turning to UNLOCK will be audible. NOTE:If radio tuner is ON, it will go off and come on again when programming procedure is completed. Within 10 seconds, press one of the transmitter buttons. The sound of lock actuators turning to UNLOCK will be audible. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. After storing its code, ensure transmitter works properly by repeatedly pressing one of its buttons. System begins working after pressing any transmitter button 6 times. In one of my previous post I told you to use a remote wire to apply battery voltage to the starter solenoid. That is the proper way. Using a screwdiver and at the wrong terminals, that can mean disaster if anything goes wrong. Under such testing, the starter would run but it is not going to engage as the pinion gear is not being pushed out by the solenoid.

At starter disconnect ONLY the solenoid wire.
Get a piece of wire, add a fuse to it and attach one end to the starter solenoid terminal. Touch the other end to the battery positive terminal and see if it cranks. Remember to have the vehicle in NEUTRAL.

Just for confirmation in case the starter is good. We would be doing other testings from here so I need to be very sure I understand you correctly the present conditions and symptoms.

1. No clicking noise when ignition key is turned to crank engine. True/False.
2. Security light stays on during cranking.
3. Dash indicator lights stays on when turned to On or while cranking.
4. Clicking noise of relay underdash, during ignition on or while cranking?
5. Was anything done prior to this occurring?

We are working on whatever information you have provided and if you do not provide the correct information or do not perform work as we suggested, we would be wasting our time as the desired result is not achieved.

We shall concentrate on the starting circuit for now. The starting system is rather simple and not many items to check. Get a DVOM and test light ready and go through the wiring schematics I have attached to understand the system first.

My key-less entry does not unlock my doors anymore, yet it does engage the factory alarm. My power locks don't work anymore either, the other day I noticed that they would work if I had my driver door all the way open, so I wiggled the rubber boot/cover that protects the wiring from the door to the engine and now they don't work at all, plus my driver side window won't roll down. Any suggestions? Please? Thanks.

Hi MrDanJK,

There is a possibility by wiggling the wire harness, you have cause further damage to a bad wire or you could have dislodged the wire connectors.
I would suggest unpluggint the door wire harness connector to check for contaminations or loose contacts. You would have to crawl under the dash to get at the connectors at the side kick panel.

So I have a very known car that has the potential to get stolen. I have an alarm already but I want back up protection, I’ve seen people installed kill switch wire up from the fuel pump relay, I’m wondering if I can make a kill switch wireless. As in on the internet I’ve seen modulars with remotes is it safe to put a wireless kill switch or any other good protection for that kind of car.

Hey ZAYMONEY,

If installed correctly you could add a second layer of immobilization of the vehicle.

This would however give you one more thing to potentially fail and cause you a non start condition.

If you are more worried about the car getting stolen than it potentially not starting then going down this route is a workable option.

Which motor do you have in your vehicle, i see the options for a 1.5L either 8V, 16V or 16V with VTEC.

Let us know which motor you have and we can provide you with schematics and suggestions of where is best to install a switch.

Regards, Joe

I think you said the key word "aftermarket". I hate alarm systems, but I know there is often a need or a percieved need. You have three options:

1. Pull the alarm out of the car
2. Contact the manufacturer
3. Provide much more info on the system in the off chance that someone else knows about it and hope they respond.
