Hi Sheshe712,

When the Check light shows and misfiring occurs, the TCS light would come on so they are related.

You would need to retrieve the trouble code to find out what is causing the CEL to show. I would suspect it to be misfiring codes, P0300, P0301 - P0306 and/or P1399.

This could be caused by fault with the igntion coils or spark plugs.

Autozone provides free scanning, get it done and let me know the exact trouble code so I can understand and advise on what needs to be done to rectify problem.

The maintenance required light comes on when I start my car but then goes out. The check engine light comes on when I crank the car and stays on while driving. My car slows down sometimes while I am driving and when I press the accelerator it will hesitate and/or stop going. Then I pull over and stop and turn ignition off and right back on and put it in drive and it will not move. So I turn ignition off and wait four or five minutes and start the car again and it will go down the road for a few miles and start doing the same thing all over again. The TCS light comes on sometimes when driving but goes back off in a few minutes. Can you please tell me what the problem might be. Also, will it cause damage to keep driving it? I would to get it to a mechanic but I am not sure if it will make it there.

Thank you! I took my car to O'Reilly's for a diagnostic scan. It gave the following codes:
PO740 - torque convertor
PO706 - transmission range sensor
PO730 - torque convertor or shift
solenoid
PO700 - transmission fluid

The transmission fluid was checked, and it was 3/4 to no more than 1 quart low.
What is your advice?

have a trans guy look at this it may be time to rebuild the transmission or at least the torque converter may be bad.

The trans guy is located a long distance from me. So I had a regular mechanic to do a diagnostic scan since he is close by. It revealed the following codes:
PO730 - Hydraulic solenoid
PO740 - Torque convertor

I have a constant check engine light on my 2003 Acura TL which I continue to drive. The car is hesitating and the gas mileage has taken a dive .Last year I had the same issue and I poured Restore in the tank and the light went out. This time it was a no go . According to the manual the problem lies within the emission system- what would be your first guess as to the cause of the light? Thanks for your time. Tim B.

Tim:

Have the computer scanned to identify trouble codes. Most parts stores will do it for free. Then you will know what is causing the light to come on.

ya but the mechanic probably doesn't know transmissions that well like most of us that is why I said to have a trans guy look at it so he can check pressures if needed or go by experience on what is causing the problem.

you could replace the solenoid and have the same problem that is why I send people to transmission shops when they run into a condition like yours. As trans shop guys know these things a lot better than us mechanics.

Ok. Thanks! So are the codes from the big diagnostic scanner correct? Do these codes mean anything to the trans guys?

Six cylinder two wheel drive automatic 58,000 miles.

Hi,
A check engine light came on at around 57,000 miles. I took it to the Acura dealer and they want to replace a sensor. The care drives fine other than the check engine light (which is going to cost about $500.00 to fix) is this something I can do myself? Do I have any other options?

Thanks,
Nadeem

Thank you guys for your help! What type of pressures are you referring to for the trans guy to check? Would the transmission fluid being 3/4 to 1 quart low have anything to do with getting the codes PO730 and PO740?

Here is what it says on the bill for the diagnose charge: Part 57812 code P1172, B1S1 A/F sensor out of range.

I called the BBB Autoline to find out if this kind of repair is covered under the extended warranties (8/80) and they are not cooperative at all.

Thanks,

the low fluid could or it could also be the converter going bad.

the other one I am not familiar with. if you know someone handy and semi mechanically inclined, they can change that o2 sensor, easily.

he would check line pressure and or pressure for different applications of trans like accumulator or clutch application. also because of dealing with transmissions on a daily basis could probably tell you what is specifically wrong with it as most mechanics like me don't do a lot of auto trans work due to so many other things that go wrong with a car that we have to fix.

I have a 05 Acura Tl engine light on, has a code of P2240. 02 sensor bank 2 sensor 1. so I replaced the o2 sensor on exhaust manifold by firewall like the book says, cleared the code and the engine light came back on same code P2240. could it be a bad new sensor or another problem?

to change an oxygen sensor (o2 sensor) you just unplug it, and unscrew it from out of the exhaust pipe/manifold, and replace it. also, if your up to it, the mechanics that do the repairs for the dealers, will do work like this on the side, for like fifty dollars, to change an oxygen sensor, all you have to do is ask them. pull them to the side, and ask them. because of the difficulty, there are really no instructions to do this because you just unplug and unscrew.

TL P1172 Bank 1 sensor 1 is out of range. I bought the sensor online. I need to know exact location of this sensor on the car. How do I get to it? Is it under the hood or under the car? Are there any instructions available online? Are there any photos available? I would really appreciate any help.
Thanks,

Here you go, it should be fairly easy to do because it is right in the front of the engine.

While driving the TCS light comes on followed by Check Engine light. After restarting TCS lights is off but Check
Engine stays on. Code is telling that EGR valve have a problem. When you reset a computer, sometimes you can drive for days and then it happened again in the same sequence: TCS first then Check Engine light.

I don't think it's brake related, becuase sometimes it happened when I am braking, but another time when I am just cruising with my foot off the gas pedal.

Hi maaiig,

The TCS light can be turned on by and engine problem and in this case, it is the EGR causing misfiring.

You need to get the CEL problem checked and rectified first as engine trouble codes takes precedence over other codes.

What is the EXACT trouble code and have you done any repairs to it yet?

Yes, it is giving the EGR valve code. I cleaned the valve and replaced the gasket. The problem is still there.

I replaced the sensor (bank 1 sensor 1) with part number BS13965 oxygen sensor but the check engine light is still on. I try to rest it by unplugging the battery, the light went away for about five minutes but then came back. I am not sure why. Is this the correct replacement part? I would appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Nedu

When EGR has a fault, it is not as simple as cleaning the valve and replacing the gasket. The port under the EGR has to be cleaned to clear the clogging due to carbon build up.
