When driving up the canyon it overheats

There are freeze plugs on the side of the blocks. And in very severe cases, I've seen these plugs pop out. But that was because there was a blown head gasket that allowed exhaust gases to build up in the cooling system, which in turn caused the overheating and the freeze plug to pop out.

If you this is what happened to your engine, then you have much more serious problems than just that freeze plug.

What you can do is refill your engine with coolant, then jack up the car and place it on jack stands. Then start it and crawl underneath and look to see where the coolant is coming from.

Be very careful to STAY AWAY from the turning parts of the engine and to engage the parking brake as well as place blocks behind the rear tires.

If you can't accomplish all of these precautions, DO NOT crawl under the car with the engine running.
