loss of power when driving

This may be difficult but, what we need to do is determine whether it is spark, fuel pressure or both that you are losing when the stall occurs. A bad O2 sensor won't make it stall. I'm going to do a little research and I'll get back to this posting. If not tonight-tomorrow morning.

Thanks, what it does is the tach will stay exactly where it was at the time and the speedo drops to nothing and the car just loses power. Sometimes when I go to restart it, I will hear it crank but not start and sometimes I will just turn the key and get nothing but I still have power to the radio, lights, etc. Hope that helps

Everything you have described to this point shows your ignition switch to be the culprit. This is just an educated guess I will admit, but that is where I would start. Please keep me posted.

My 96 dodge caravan w/3.0L engine, 136k miles runs great, most of the time-however if I go up a long grade it will lose power and eventually stall. It acts like it is out of gas (it's not). When I try to restart it, it still acts like it is out of gas i.e. turns over and trys to start, it will sometimes start and run very rough then smooth out and run fine. However I usually have to let it sit over night then it will usually start the next day and run fine untill the next time I have to go up a long hill. I used a scanner and got back codes po171 (mixture too lean) and 132, I replaced the upstream O2 sensor but, no change. SOMEBODY MUST KNOW! HELP! PLEASE.

Well, no one answered my question, so I found a local mechinic who specializes in chrysler prducts (he was service mgr for the local dodge dealer for 15 yrs bedore going into business for himself as a mobile technician). Even the dealership wouldn't look at my car because "intermitant problems are too hard to find". any way for $95.00 he came to my house and diagnosed it within 10 min. Even though all codes were erased! His state of the art diagnostics --moreso his ability to interpret what he saw was superb. Any way, it turned out to be a fuel pump that acted up intermitantly.
