today the automatic locks stopped working. I now have to manually lock all 4 doors. Will this be an expensive fix?

check fuses under hood by using this guide with the door lock locations in the diagrams below.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

My lock button on driver door does not work for locking but it does work for unlocking. The manual lock works either way as well as passenger door works. To lock all of my doors simultaneously I have to reach over and use the passenger door button and it will lock all doors.

I checked fuses and they were fine. Also my side mirror button doesn't work and neither does my rear windshield fluid dispenser or my car fob.

I have a 2005 Chevy Malibu which was purchased used from a respectable dealership. I have had not trouble until now. I tried to unlock the doors with the remote and it would not work. This was a little strange because it worked a couple of hours previously and the battery in the remote was only a couple of weeks old. I tried unlocking the door manually but my key would not turn. It would not unlock the trunk either. I called the dealership and they suggested that I would just have to have it re-keyed. I went back to the car about 10 minutes later and the remote worked fine. However, this morning the remote would not lock or unlock the doors. The switch inside the car works fine. Any suggestions?

Sounds like an anti-theft problem, most likely the BCM. Does the car start and run ok once you are in it? Is th esecurity light on?

Yes the car starts and runs fine once I get in. I just replaced a fuse for the power outlet(cigarette lighter). I'm not sure if since it's power locks that maybe it blew a fuse?? The security light does not stay on once the car is started. Thanks for your reply!!!

You can try recoding the remotes, but it sounds like either a BCM problem or the receiver for the remote locks. Might want to have it scanned (BCM) to see if it detected a failure

Well we figured out it's actually just the remote. There was a component that was broken inside it. However, that still does not explain why the key won't open the door. Thanks again for your help!!

I bet your problem is with one lock switch. usually the drivers on fails as your window would be open and water can get into it. If you can disconnect it and see if the problem still occurs

Sounds like the door latch is the issue. Here is a guide that will help with removing the door panel:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/door-panel-removal

Once that is removed, below are the instructions on how to replace it.

Let's run through this material and go from there. Thanks

look in your manual where the relays and fuses are. check to see if your relay is sticking by replacing a similar relay and see if that cures it. Otherwise it may be a computer problem orkey fob problem.

my wife's 04 Malibu is now having the door locks going up& down by themselves multiple times in a row, without her pausing the button. You can be driving down the road and it will just start doing it. The shop I took it to is having a hard time tracking it down. Has anyone seen this before?

Along with the above, tail light issues. Believe after reading research is related to BCM. I understand you must have a BCM matched to the VIN (ECM and PCM follow). I read where in other cases of sticking brake lights to lube the BCM C2 connector with the appropriate lube. Will you confirm this for me and detail some do's and or do not's? Please

Hello,

Before condemning the BCM for this issue I have seen the driver side door latch micro switch short out causing the locks to lock and unlock rapidly. With the car on push and pull on the drivers door with it closed to see if you can get the system to act up. Here is a wiring diagrams for the door locks and the location of the BCM.

I would try a used one it might plug and play if not you will need to get it programmed by a shop it should cost about $130.00.

Here are the door lock wiring diagrams and the location of the BCM to help you see how the system works.

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

O, my passenger doorlock switch works to unlock, but i guess it was broken cause you cant push it down to lock , its already down as far as it goes, like it was smashed down or something, but you can push it up to lock, ok.Wellmy question is, the driver side doorlock switch is the problem, the switch is ok with pushing it up and down, but there is no power in it, when you click it up or down it doesnt do anything, no noise or anything.i tried the fuses and even the relay but that didnt do the job, i tried a couple different techniques like holding the buttom up or down while opening and closing it to see if it locked but no, so i guess that takes away the wiring being messed up, but not possitive.is there anything i can try to get it to work, or do you already know whats wrong with it, and if so how do i fix it if possible. ty and hope to hear from you guys soon.. rj

has the doorlocks work properly in the past and did this start when the door lock on the passengers side went bad? If so the connection may be bad on the drivers door. My wifes firebird did the same thing and I replaced the one on the pasengers dorr and it still did not work. so then I replaced the one on the drivers door and it worked. check to make sure you have voltage going to the drivers door by using a test light. If you don't then check the wiring and fuses at the fuse block

Within the past month:
-beep beep beep sounded from either the driver's door or driver's side fuse box
-drivers side electrical door lock failed
-heat goes on and off but no changes to heat settings
-various dash lights have gone out

could there be a central, single problem? All fuses look good.

I have a 2003 and a 2001 Malibu. When I put the 2003 in drive or neutral or reverse the doors automatically lock. And in park they automatically unlock. On the 2001 it does not do this. I have to lock the doors manually. Is there a way I can turn this feature on on my 2001? The 2001 is an LS the 2003 is a base model.

I can unlock all four doors and when I put the car in drive, neutral, or reverse they will all lock. But the switch to the inside of the car won't lock or unlock them. Neither does my control, my remote won't lock the doors. I don't think that it is the original lock for the vehicle so I have no idea if the previous owner did something wrong. My remote and door switch won't lock or unlock the doors. But if I unlock the doors manually and put the car in drive they will all lock. What could the problem be?

No even from the passenger side switch the doors will not lock or unlock with it. The only time it locks is when the car is put in drive. I have a baby on the way and don't need to be fumbling with the locks you know lol. Um what is the bcm? But the doors won't lock or unlock with the switchs on either side or the remote and never have. What do you think that this could mean?
Thank you very much

Oh one other thing, does the middle console where the shifter is, is there a light or fuse that lights up the PRND12 gear symbols?
Thank you again

You BCM (body control module) some where is not recieving a signal from the switches or the remote control. or it is recieving the signal and its not responding to it. thats why you need to have it scanned for trouble codes to find out. your local dealer can scan it for you. as for your shifter there is a light in there that most likely is burned out

Thank you so much for your help regarding this. So if I go to a chevy dealer and say "I need to have it scanned for trouble codes" they will know what I'm referring to? Or would they need to be caught up on the whole story?

My car makes a relay grind when trying to unlock it and when at drivers door it opens all four with a grind. Wont re-lock unless you do it manually. All other relays truck etc work. This car was bought used and the drivers door was shorted and glass was down. I replaced the panel containing window switches and now they work fine but not the locks. If you accidentally hit the unlock switch its got that relay hums loud and it opens all four. Guess it is not a fuse it sounds like a relay, but where is it and why all four doors?

On my Malibu, my 1 and 2 for a/c and heater control button won't work. It turns but it won't blow at those intervals. Why won't it work for those? Oh and thank you for the light bulb thing, thats so much better.

So there is a grinding noise in the drivers door when trying to operate the power locks? If so sounds like a bad door lock actuator.

way off base but thanks. the grind comes from all doors. windows go up and down lock by key or manually flicking the tab on the door. opens and grinds when any of the equipped doors are pushed upwards and the grind is in the dash. must be a relay that is bad on one end. it just echoes in the doors. unlocks but wont lock. where is the relay that controls the locks?
