You do not think what is the problem?
The PCM. I have turned your question over to someone who has more knowledge of your issue.

When engine is hot engine will not start unless I step on gas pedal. Also, will not start when cold with the gas tank below a quarter tank. The EGR was replaced twice and the problem continues.

When it does not start, has the fuel pressure been checked?

Yes, fuel pressure is good.

That is interesting considering everything seems to be related to the fuel supply. Have you checked to make sure the engine is getting a good spark when it will not start? The spark should be a hot blue snapping spark.

After warm up, three miles, and five minute cool off, engine will not start. Replaced cam and crank sensors, but there is no injector pulse. Fuel pressure is okay and there are no codes. After cooling for an hour it starts up fine. Any ideas?

Is the security light on solid or flashing when the truck doesnt start?

Six cylinder two wheel drive manual 73,000 miles, 2500 model.
It has a 5.9 diesel that will not start by cranking it over, but if you push it, it will. It runs fine once it is started. You can also start it by using ether. One little squirt and it starts right up. Had it at Dodge in Tulsa. Their best guess was injectors. But why would it run good once started if it is injectors?

Hello,
It is not the injectors it sounds more like a engine coolant temperature sensor which when gets a little off it will not trigger a check engine light e so most paces miss it.
Here is a guide to help you see what you are in for when doing he job:
https://www.2carpros.com/articles/coolant-temperature-sensor-cts-replacement
Here is the location for your truck (below).
Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.
Cheers, Ken

When I was driving home my headlights started dimming and some of my dash lights were flashing. Now I have no power on the solenoid wire when I turn my ignition. There is 12 volts on the starter wire. I have replaced the starter relay and checked all fuses. When I turn the ignition I have power going to the PCM from the relay but nothing going to the starter solenoid. I have a brand new battery and starter.

Forget the starter. That has nothing to do once the engine is running. The dimming headlights and confused computers/warning lights are the classic symptoms of a failed charging system. Charge the battery at a slow rate for an hour, then once the engine is running, measure the battery voltage with a digital voltmeter. You must find between 13.75 and 14.75 volts. If it is low, suspect the alternator, but there are a couple of quick tests to verify that before you spend money on unneeded parts.
You said there is no voltage on the starter's solenoid wire, but you did not say when. Are you expecting it to be there when the ignition switch is in the "run" position?

When the ignition is in start position I do not see any voltage on the solenoid wire. The battery is fully charged.

Measure the battery voltage with everything turned off and holler back with that number. Have you checked for blown fuses? They often blow when connecting a battery due to the current surges of the many computer memory circuits charging up.

I have checked all fuses. Battery is 12.39. The starter does not even click like there is a low battery.

I put in a new PCM and the starter will not crank. It has been flashed and is supposed to be ready to use. When I put my old one in it would not crank either, however it started thirty minutes prior when I pulled it in the garage to swap out PCM's. I was installing a new PCM because I always had to reset the PCM in order to start the truck.

The battery is not fully-charged. A fully-charged battery will measure 12.6 volts. A good, totally drained battery will measure 12.2 volts. Measure yours again with the head lights turned on. I am leaning toward the voltage dropping down when the ignition switch is turned on, to the point the computer won't turn on the starter relay.

No matter what the people at auto parts tell you a pro has to use his scanner to put all the security stuff in and it will not let it start until that is done.

All vehicles have security/anti-theft on them since the 1990's regardless whether the dealer tried to sell you a system or not. These come from the factory like that. I know you have been messing around with this for at least three weeks or so. Have a pro scan it with his scanner he will tell you right away you do not need to go to a dealer. Thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

My truck occasionally will not start until the second or third key turnover, is this a problem with the fuel filter or regulator?
Jun 21, 2018 at 1:41 PM

It could be either. What you need to do is check the pressure and fuel pressure drop off. It could be loosing its prime causing the problem. Here is a how to for checking the pump, regulator, and drop off. You will need a gauge, but most parts stores will lend or rent them.

That is a lot of information to wade through. How about a clue as to what you have checked already? Do you have spark? Is the fuel pump running? Check engine light on? Is the gas tank empty?

After sitting over night truck starts fine. After running truck if truck sits more then ten minutes will not start unless accelerator is pressed. When it starts seems like engine is flooded and can smell fuel.

Hello and thanks for donating.
Is the check engine light coming on in dash? If so pull codes and post them for me. If not than make sure check engine light bulb is not burnt. If it is not burnt and not coming on but vehicle is running poorly this often indicates a faulty computer.

Check engine light does not come on. Bulb has been checked. Engine runs great except for this start up problem.

Hard start warm engines are most commonly caused by a dirty fuel filter or failing fuel pump. It can, however, be a faulty EVAP component but this will cause the engine light to appear. Replace the fuel filter and see if the problem still exists.

I replaced the engine in my truck (1500), the engine was running before removal to install in my truck. Now it will not start. I am getting fuel, but no spark, it just spins over. Could it be the timing chain? I have replaced all sensors, ignition switch and ignition switch module located in the steering column. Everything, lol! I am really not wanting to tear it apart, but it is looking like that is the issue. It spins over great just no start.

I went to start my truck and when I turn the key it just goes click. I checked battery voltage and it said 12.21 volts. I put a jump on it and it cranks right over. Once in a while it will turn over and start. Checked alternator and it shows good. Put a charge on the battery and it says fully charged turn the key and click. Put it on jump and it cranks right over. Starter solenoid?

Check your battery connections to make sure they are clean and tight. Inspect the battery cables for corrosion all the way to the starter and your ground connections. Make sure cable n starter is tight as well. Could also just be a failing starter.

Thanks for the information. I had the battery rechecked and as I suspected it was bad. Once you put a load on it the voltage dropped. Thanks for the quick response.

Are the cranking rpms okay? Can you check for codes?
Can you do some of the basic tests? Have a helper crank it, while you check for spark at the plugs. If you have spark everywhere, check fuel pressure.
Do you think the theft system might be causing a problem?

We had to disconnect the theft system because it keep going off. When we pulled that fuse the truck turned over but now something is draining the battery and it would not turn over even though the anti theft system is not connected. We thought it might be that but do not know how to fix it.

On my truck (1500) I seem to be getting a flat spot in the acceleration that seems to be getting a little worse over the past week. When you depress the gas pedal from a stop it starts off then there is no acceleration for a short range through depressing the pedal then it jumps abruptly and goes. Can you tell me what this may be? Maybe a throttle position sensor?

Scan for codes and check fuel pressure with a gauge.
Here is a link that will be a great help to you. The link features an article with written step by step instructions and pictures explaining how to do the scan yourself. Also, I have included a link to our YouTube channel with a how to video on code scanning.
This is applicable even if your check engine light is not on.
