fuel pump removal

the fuel pump needs replacing every three months? if so - check the wire coming out of the fuse block to the pump. the fuse is in the rear fuse block and it is a purple wire - although if this is your problem, the wire may look brown until you peel back some electrical tape and see that its just burnt. the terminal within that connector will have to be replaced - special tool needed to remove old terminal and to crimp new one.

my 2002 chevy malibu starts fine when cold, but dies after 10 mins or so. it acts like it is out of gas, but is not. i have changed out the fuel pump and filter. plugs and wiers.

Check the fuel pressure if it's within specs and also are the injectors pulsing.

is there an easier way to get to the fuel pump without removing the gas tank?

Sorry, but with your particular vehicle, there's no other way to gain access to the fuel pump other than by dropping the tank.
