camshaft position sensor?

Here is the location of the camshaft sensor .

Component Location: On top left side of cylinder head mounted to ignition coil housing

I grabbed a diagram from for the crankshaft sensor . Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

I have a check engine light on for camshaft sensor. And Amazon is the only place that has the cam sensor, but I cannot find any information on the location. Weird!

Yes that is weird, I checked ALLDATA and PRODEMAND with no luck!

05 chevy cavalier 2.2 DOC. jumped time. replaced all the timing parts. had the head rebuilt.new crank sensor.took out the catatlic converter. that helped it. starts hard and getting a 340 and 341 codes. cam position sensor? it has a miss at about 2500 rpm and no power. there are no other codes. fuel pressure is a steady 57 lbs. injectors all show a 11.7 resistance. why is it getting codes for something it dont have? it idles fine just hard to start and no power.

Which is it 04 or 05?
This ignition system does not use a conventional camshaft position sensor. The ignition control module detects when #1 0r #3 cylinder has fired on its compression stroke. The higher voltage signal is on the event cylinder. The icm sends cmp signal to pcm. You should have compression sense ignition.

Possible causes, low resistance in both the #1 and #3 secondary ignition circuits. High resistance in both the #4 and #2 secondary ignition circuits. Also, a faulty crank sensor signal can cause issues.

I am sorry. Its an 04.Thank you for your help. I ask this same question at several sites and have one that is telling me its timing.the miss comes and goes so does that rule out mechinacal issues? I believe I am going to try changing the ICM first. I have an old one here but not sure if its good. Do you have a suggestion where to start with this? Agian thank you for your response.

I can't diagnose without looking at it, and having the proper diagnostic tools. Replacing the icm may not fix it? Are you sure the timing is ok?

Got fuel pump problems now another back yard mechanic says its not the pump on our 2002 cavillier because he flooded it he says.He find the problem we need a cam sensor.Could he be right.Before I banged on the gas tank and it started. Before we had to rock the car back and forth from the back then the car would start.A couple of weekends ago in a city 100 miles away from home I banged on the gas tank and then it would start.These things now won't get the car going.We bought a fuel pump yesterday at an auto wreckers for 140.00 Today someone checked our car and said it was a cam sensor near the gas tank.He showed me one from a firebird it looks the size of a sparkplug.The oil is low I'am going to get the car tuned up just as soon as we get it on the road.Working part time.Thank you for your answer I'am very grateful.Have a good day.

Have the fuel pressure checked with a fuel gauge if its within specs-start here-BTW dunno where that fool got his cam sensor back there -there's no such thing back there with that-

My car (2.2 liter) has a bad crankshaft position sensor. The only problem I have is that I do not know where it is located on my car. I have searched and cannot find it. Is there a diagram of some sort that I can look at or is there a detailed explanation somewhere where I can find the sensor location on my car? I have the same issue with the camshaft position sensor.

2001 chevy cavalier 2.4L- i just replace the crankshaft sensor and the cam sensor yesterday, everything was fine for the first 5 min then the car has trouble in first gear and over 20. what could it be? check engine light isnt on. could the sensors just need time to kick in?

Why did you change the crank and cam sensor? Were you having problems before you worked on it? Did you check the wiring circuits before you replaced the sensors?

As in it's damaged? The auto parts stores have a whole catalog with replacement connectors because they have become such a common problem. You can also snip one off a car in a salvage yard.

I need to replace the pigtail to the camshaft sensor. where are the wires located that i would splice the pigtail to?

How do you know? If problem is ref voltage--ground or signal, you need to find out.

The electrical connector comes apart, you may be able to use needle-nose pliars to squeeze contacts. The partsbook I looked at shows only connector, no pig tail wires. If you have a connector with pigtail wires just splice them in.

the wires on the cam shaft sensor connector have been chewed by a mouse. i have the wire connector that connects to the cam shaft sensor. i just need to know where the wires to splice to the new connector are located and how would i locate them?

I've never seen that happen with a vehicle regularly driven, them varmints don't like that hot engine.

I can give wiring colors below, the wires go to the pcm. That's about all I can do, check the wiring harness for the proper wire colors. The info was for 2.2L engine.

where is the pcm located? the car sat for a few months in farmland, and the mouse had a field day with the wires, literally.

Had my car checked out and the number shich means that the cam sensor needs to be replaced. bought the cam sensor. and my husband is having a hard time to find where it goes. he found the old one on the top of the motor. unplugged and can't find where it goes... any help would be appreciated

Assuming that you have the 2.4L

Just find an open harness on top, towards the front of the engine. It may have fallen into the cracks. But the harness is in the front of the cylinder head.

Sounds like a nightmare. The pcm should be right front of engine compart, passenger side. At the moment, I don't have a picture.

is it easily accessable? also i noticed several wires connected to a believe a relay right under the air filter. could that be the pcm?

I don't know, I would have to look? Sounds like your in over your head, no offense intended.

You have to safely raise and support the vehicle, passenger side. Remove engine splash guard, to get at pcm. As far any other wiring, I'd have to look at it. You need a friend or somebody that knows about vehicles, that can actually look under the hood. I can't see anything from here.

I was informed that the cam sensor is controlled by the ecm and i would find the wires at the ecm. problem is my buddy isn't able to make it to my place today to locate the ecm. any idea where it would be and how would i access it?

Does the starter crank ok?

Starting rough. engine felt like it was jumping out of hood.after about a month started losing power occasionally.check engine light finally came on when starting.coded crank sensor and cam sensor.replaced both.ran fine for about 20 miles on highway.residential area 25mph.lost power going up hill then stalled.same thing all over with engine jumping, sputtering even backfired once.coded same two codes plus ets off light came on.replaced throttle sensor.no change.will run fine for a few miles then starts all over again but now is shifting really hard also. Same two codes plus ets off light.Mechanic says he has no clue. Any ideas ?

the starter cranks good, starts up good, and seems to run fine. i replaced the plugs and wires and the valve cover gasket and changed the oil.

Check to see if your engine coolant temp sensor is reading correctly on a scan tool to make sure your getting the real info from the sensor.

Have the fuel pressure checked first. Then check the motor and tranny mounts.

i want to know if the 1997 chevrolet cavalier 2.2 ohv mpfi has camshaft position sensor, cause here i got one like that and i can't see it and i have a cavalier 2200 ohv sfi engine that has it.

item g on chart in first pic where the hole is on block is crank sensor. 2nd pic may be right

you can also go to rock auto cataog online and it will show you a pic of it to make it easier.

the car suddenly started, what sounds like to me, firing on an open cylinder and will not start. acts like its 180 out when i try and start it. all cylinders show good compression(140+psi) replaced the cam and crank position sensors with no change.
