Hello,

Here are the full headlight and blinker wiring diagrams in the images BELOW. Left front turn signal wire is light blue. Left rear turn signal wire is yellow. Right front turn signal wire is dark blue. Right rear turn signal wire is dark green. Grounds are black. Common power for tail and license plate lights is black and white. Common power for front parking lights is yellow. High beams are pink wires. Low beams are dark blue. Ground is going to be black. Check out the headlight and DRL wiring diagrams (BELOW). Best, Ken

That has to be some kind of aftermarket modification. The person who installed the lights connected them to the wrong circuits. Where the wires should be connected depends on when you want the lights to turn on.

Let's try this turn on the head light's on low beam then go to the dim side unplug the low beam bulb.Check and see if you have battery voltage to the orange wire. Then see if you have less then 2 ohm's to ground to the dark blue wire.Let me know what you find.

I've been have problems with my tail lights and head lights not working. People on here said it could be my head light switch so i replaced that and they still don't work. Some on said on here that it could be the BCM. What is the BCM?

You would check the voltage with a multimeter set to dc voltage 20 volt setting. The black lead to ground the red lead to the orange wire. You would use the same multimeter set to the 200 ohms scale the black wire to a good ground and and the red wire to dark blue wire and your looking for a reading of 2 ohms or less.

The dim lights on my 2004 chev. impala will not turn on. The daytime driving lights work, however as soon as the sun goes down they turn off, as they should, and the dim lights will not turn on automatically or with the switch. The brignt lights work fine. I have checked the bulbs and the relay.

System is equipped with self diagnostics and if there are trouble codes, a scan would assist in getting to the bottom of the problem.

The chart shows the diagnostic procedures.

My front headlights are acting up. All 4 beams are on at one time. The left one's work as they should, and the right are both always dim, and when low beam is on, the high beam of the left is dim, and vice versa. its none of the fuses, it's not the bulbs. I got it down to the grounds. But Where do I find the ground for the headlight?

Check for applicable troubles codes. There are lighting trouble codes. If your going to work on your own vehicles, at the least, you need an obd2 code reader that will read manufacturer specific codes as well as po codes.

Take the lamp connector loose, with headlamps on, check for the same voltage on all head lamp circuits, use chassis ground not headlamp connector ground.

In the diagram, the top wires are voltage, bottom wires are ground. The dimmer switch is part of the ground circuit, if you wan t to word it that way. The low beams ground through the headlamp relay in diagram. The high beams ground through dimmer switch ground. The ground wire location is the same for high and low.

Sorry it took so long.

Electrical problem
2004 Chevy Impala 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

While driving at night my headlights go out when I switch from bright to dim. They return when I switch again to bright. I'm driving with my bright lights against oncoming traffic. I don't mind paying to have it repaired if it is truly something that I can't fix myself (replacing a relay or fuse), but I hate to take it into the shop where they charge me $50 to put it on their diagnostic machine while they go on a fishing expedition to find out what all they can scare me into repairing.

sounds like a multi function swith. you need to remove the air bag to get at it. I would suggest having a professional do it

it was the dimming switch in the steering column with the cruise control on/off switch. better off trying to find one used, because a new one from GM is $500!

I have checked all fuses and relays, all are fine. When I pull headlight switch the lights will not come on. But MFS will put on brights, daytime running lights work. All blinkers etc work. I checked for power at headlight connector. No 12 volts. Both headlights are out. But I can apply 12 volt to bulb and they work? Wipers act funny, and security light acts funny. Is this the BCM? What can I do? I am stuck..

Clean battery terminals and have multi function switch checked , it may be bad not allowing low beams to work assuming fuses and relays for head lights have been checked under hood. Then reset security system after cleaning battery. good idea to get battery checked for condition including load test as well.

Okay, I can load test it myself. So the MFS can stop the regular lights from coming on? I do know there is no click on the MFS. I have to hold back for high beams to stay on.

Thanks I will clean battery terminals. And load test it. Dave H

yes, multi function switches can make lights not work on low beam. it may be the relay or body module as well not supplying power to dimmer switch try to see if light/blue wire is getting power if it is and none coming out dark/blue then it is the switch. if it does not get power then have it scanned to rule out body module.

Six cylinder two wheel drive automatic 125,000 miles.

I have one bright and one dim headlight. I have checked the ground which is for both headlights and they have the same resistance at the connectors the lamps seem fine. what is next?

I think what is happening is voltage drop do to a common ground not at light but for dimmer and relay.
So check G 202 on the left side of brake pedal bracket. Make sure it is clean and tight.

I went under the dash to look for a ground on the left side of the brake pedal but cannot find any. here is some extra information: At the headlamp on the right side I have twelve volts at connector pin F and H which are battery positive voltage, on the left at pin H the battery positive voltage. I have nothing but lights still come on dim instead of not at all. this car does DRL pin F on the left connector, if this helps
both grounds read no voltage connector to body bolt ground.

if ther eis no power from the lt blu wire in pic that operates the headlamp relay that goes to body module so you would have no low beam the pink wires are for high beam so the bcm may not be getting power. you can try disconnection multi function switch and putting power to that wire in harness and see if lights come on if they do the switch has lost contact if not the body module is bad and should be scanned by a mechanic to verify.
