okay i have a trans issue. i replace it with another one and it seem to have the same issues as the one i took out it has a delay when you put into reverse for and 5 seconds and then when you are driving it it shift kinda hard out of third and really hard out of fourth into overdrive i also did notice a shutter noise when it goes into second. i get a pending code of p0732 i have add the lucus stop slip in it but if does not seem to do any thing for it. the trans i got from a junk yard and have contact them them told them they gave me a bad transmission they told me that the car it came out of was test driven before they sent it to me and it shifted fine for them. so i am at a lose on what is wrong. please help

I would never use the lucas stop slip in the transmission if that transmission is slipping then more then likely you have a line pressure issue in the transmission. What is the year and model the donor transmission came from?

You put for year and model 2001 SL1 which would have a single cam engine. So which year and model do you have? Also there is a vin on the transmission could i please get that its on the left side of the coil pack where the engine meets the transmission? Also a hard shift is caused by too high of line pressure so the lucas cant help that. Also do you have a transmission pressure tester to check the transmission pressures?

okay the vin for the car i am working on is this ( 1g8zk52751z29823) the vin on the trans i think it is this es81esz18 it was kinda funky writing also the air inject tube was plugged cleaned it out and it does not seem to slam in the froward gears but i still have a delay in reverse then a slam into reverse gear and it am not sure about the second gear i still hear the solenoid trying to engage but i can't tell if it is engaging or not. but i am thinking not if reverse and second uses the same solenoid and no i do not have a pressure tester

Thats no vin on the transmission i have ever seen yes the reverse uses 2nd gear clutch pack but reverse has a reverse servo piston and uses full line pressure and the forward gears only uses like 120-130psi.If you have a delay slam into reverse then i would say we have a pressure issue. We need a pressure gauge set i have a nice set that does oil and has a transmission pressure gauge and adapters. Its a otc set its like 56 on amazon i would start with a pressure test. Those transmissions are known for loose input shaft nuts and bad pressure regulators in the valve body i can usually see a loose input shaft nut with a pressure test.

You unscrew the transmission temp sensor and hook up the pressure tester there. Then get the engine up to operating temp read the pressure at idle in park? Then idling in park pull the line pressure fuse what is the pressure now? Then put the line pressure fuse back in and restart the engine. Then at idle put the transmission in reverse while watching the transmission pressure does it go up fast or delayed? Also what is the pressure reading at idle in reverse? Now put it in drive what is the pressure reading? Also what kind of scan tool do you have?

okay i hooked it up and it is about 75 to 80 psi put it into reverse it jumps up to 225 then drops to 75 then right back to 225 put into natural i hear a hard clicking noise and it is at 95 when i put it into drive i get 110 then when i shut the car off it jumps from 75 to 200 then back down to 0 the scaner i have is a genisys evo okay the vin i gave you was off the block not the trans sorry the other one that i found is 8tz176912

The line pressure fuse is right in the under hood fuse box labeled LP if memory serves correct.Get me back the pressure at idle in park with the fuse in and with the fuse out.So far sounds like the pressure regulator in the valve body is bad.

I dont undrstand this part you told me when i put it into drive i get 110 then when i shut the car off it jumps from 75 to 200 then back down to 0?What gear position is the car in when this happens?I have never seen the pressure shoot up to 225 then back down to 75 then back up to 225 when put into reverse.

okay when i said i get 110 into drive then i put it back to park and turn off the key and watched to gauge when it is in park the pressure is at 75 so when i shut the key off it jumps to 200 before the engine comes to a stop. so what are you asking me to do?

It will jump to 200 psi when turning the engine off in park because the line.pressure actuator looses power like when.you pull the line pressure fuse. Also i was asking if under special tests/functions on your scan tool under transmission can you buzz the transmission actuators test them audibly if there working? Also what is that 8th digit on the transmission vin really need that?

Iam really confused here the vin from the transmission you took out is from a 2002 single came engine. You said you have a twin cam engine that would explain the transmission issues from the transmission you removed wrong transmission. But you said when you asked your you had a 2001 SL1 that would be a single cam engine in there. Also the transmission you put in is from a 1996 car they told you it was from a 1997 twin cam engine.I dont have enough of the vin from the transmission you put in to tell you if its a single cam transmission or twin cam engine transmission. So right now we have to clear up right now what year car is this? Also what model?SL1 or SL2?What engine is in it a twin cam or dual cam engine? The twin cam engines the spark plugs face straight up the single cam engines the spark plugs face the front of the car at a angle.

okay here is the vin of the car its self 1g8zk52751z291823 what is weird to me is that you were able to come up with the trans that i took out was from a single cam engine witch it could be because this is the third one i have put into this car. but the digit from both are the same amount of spaces so here is the numbers off the one that is in the car right now 8tz176942 the valve cover has two humps in it with the spark plugs in the middle. witch tells me it is a dual cam motor

Alright just realized the newer vin numbers they added extra digits in the vin so the transmission you pulled out is from a 2002 car but dont have enough of the vin to tell if it was a single or dual cam transmission. Also with the transmission you just put inwith the vin numbers you gave me i can only tell its from a 1996 car not a 1997 like the supplier of the transmission told you it was from. Also third transmission thats news to me.

With the code P0732 no second gear and long delay in reverse with the pressure going right up too over 200 psi when putting it into.reverse.You could have a leaking 2nd gear piston leaking?

No if the pressures look good with the gauge if 2nd gear piston was leaking would mean the piston that engages its clutches was leaking.Inside the transmission on the input shaft you could always air check the clutches.

I posted how to air check the clutches i would concentrate on air checking the 2nd clutch and reverse servo piston. Also another thing that could cause the ratio error code could be the wrong transmission and the delay slam into reverse could be caused by not reseting the transmission adaptives after replacing the transmission.

With a tech 2 scan tool or a scan tool that can reset the adaptives not too familar with the aftermarket scan tools have only used the tech2 to reset them.I worked at the saturn dealer thats all we used that and pdt but that was only good up till 1999 i have a pdt myself.

I just see the adaptives setting the 2nd gear code though you can try it but thats all i can say.Wish i could get more of that vin on the transmission to make sure its the correct transmission.

well i gave you all the digits that i can see in the spot you told me to look. okay so i just did the air test when i apply air to the #2 port it is kinda slow on the movement if i put my figure on the clutches it moves great but on it own i think it should have some resistance i mean they seem loose. when i reply air to the reverse pressure to forward/reverse servo piston pressure port the frock does not move until all the 1st,3rd,&4th oil pressure to servo is blow out then it moves with no problems.

When your putting air into the reverse servo piston your covering the other reverse servo piston with your finger correct?Because there is two reverse servo piston ports also that fork if your covering the other hole and shooting air into the other port that fork should move instantly

okay if i put air into the reverse pressure from forward/reverse servo to 2nd clutch actuator pressure port nothing happens but if i put air to the reverse pressure to forward/reverse servo piston pressure port the fork will move after the oil pressure to servo is cleared out
