If there is continuiy, you would have to check the wireharness from door switch to fuse box for shorting.
would it be the fuse box on the passenger side under the hood or the fuse box near the drivers feet. i'm thinking the one under the hood.

The door courtesy light not turning off indicates the driver door switch wire is shorted to ground.
Flip up the driver side carpet near door sill to check for damaged wires.

I have a 1998 Honda Accord ex v6 coupe....the drivers door will not open from the outside or the inside. The electric locking mechanism seems to be working properly. I know that I could diagnos and fix the problem myself by simply removing the inner door panel.....However, it is necessary to have the door opened to remove that panel.....how can I open the door so I can get the panel off? (I've already tried going thru the window slot with no success....there is alot of rods and linkage down there and it is very hard to see....any sugegestions?

Hi there,
Under normal circumstances the door would be open to remove the trim, as you can't do this you have a bit of a problem, i would look at trying to remove the seat so you can maneuver the trim if you can access all the attach points with the door closed. Have a look at the other side, can you get to all the attach screws with it closed. you do run the risk of damaging the trim so go gently.

Unfourtunately the attach points are all concealed within the door jam itself and will not come out without opening the door....not to mention that a large portion of the door panel is behind the dash (when the door is closed the entire front part of the panel is right up agaist the dash)......HELP!

hi there,
I had a talk to the body shop next door, and they said try to remove the belt mould, That's the trim seal on the out side against the window, it should be held in with clips and when removed you will have better access into the door, otherwise it may be a matter of destroying the trim to get at it, but get a price on another trim first so you can see if it's worth getting physical with it.

Thank you for taking the time to do some reasearch and replying to my messages......I greatly appreciate it!....as far as my problem goes, I thought about taking that trim out but I dont think it would help......I did contact the dealer where I bought the car and they say it is probably the latch itself...and if I took it to them they would remove the drivers seat and force the door panel off from the inside most certainly breaking most of the clips and possibly damaging the panel itself...they would then have to drill into the latch assembly (which is an enclosed unit
with components encased in a hard white plastic block shaped unit)....to open the door.....................they would then replace the latch unit and reattach the panel and trim....and all for only $450.....yes $450....I am so pissed off....I am going to spend this entire weekend ripping my car apart and the part itself is going to cost me $104 +tax......not to mention the fact that my car needs its 3rd transmission....I got 62k out of the original and then had that replaced at a cost of $5500 only to have it fail at 128k (58k on the trans)...now they want another $4900 to replace this one as Honda "doesnt repair their transmissions"...they only replace them...HHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMM....HOnda???STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
p.s I dont think that it is because I am hard on cars.....my last was a 1992 mitsubishi eclipse 4cyl 5sp....I had 186,000 miles on it when I gave it to my brother...In the 9 years I had it the only things I had to replace (other than brake pads and wiper blads...etc) was 1 cv joint and the cat converter...total cost of repairs...$350....the clutch was still the original and was as tight as it was the day I bought that car.

Are you trying to open it from the inside or outside? Did you accidentally hit the lock while removing the door panel?

No. I can't open the door from the inside. I didn't hit the lock button. I think the handle didn't catch as good as I hoped. But I'm not sure.

If handle is hanging by the cable, pull the handle and cable until it is straight and tight then pull on the handle keeping cable tight while doing so.

Wires don't have to be connected for door to open..are you trying to install the door panel? If so then yes it is usually necessary to first plug in the connections then install the handle and replace panel back to original position.

We have had this asked before and I don't know if there was any report back on successes or failures. It is a tough one. One suggestion was to reach in from the outside and saw off the latch. I don't know what success in other attempts have been reached. Just getting the inside panel off is next to impossible.

OK. I took off the door panel and unhooked everything on it. Then when I went to put it back on I connected everything back. While trying to put the latch back it kept fallin off. I just need someone to offer some advice on how to get the latch back on without it fallin off. Where is the latch supposed to connect to? I have to like rods that are in the same spot and I'm not even sure which one that it is supposed to hook to.

Okay I am going to give you the removal and installation procedures for your vehicle's door panel..
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION:
Remove the outside (side view) mirror.
If equipped with manual windows, remove the regulator handle by pulling the clip out with a small wire hook
Remove the screw from the door handle trim.
Slide the handle assembly forward and out to access the lock rod clip.
Release the clip
Disconnect the door lock switch
Remove the inner door handle assembly.
Carefully pry at the small opening on the bottom of the speaker grill.
Remove the speaker grille.
Remove the speaker mounting screws.
Detach the electrical connector and remove the speaker.
Remove the caps screws in the armrest (pull pocket panel), then remove the armrest.
Remove the center from the trim clip at the upper front of the door panel and remove the clip.
Using a suitable trim panel removal tool, unsnap the door panel from the door frame and detach any necessary electrical connectors.
Carefully lift the door panel up and away from the door frame.
Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
(((To remove the inner handle, pry the cap out (B) and remove the screw. Pull the handle forward and halfway out, then detach the rod (C) and power door lock connector (D) )))

Hi turdroller,
This is a sticky problem that I never like to handle. the door latch is faulty and the only way to get it open is to break the latch.
You need to try to get the inner door linig out which is quite tricky as the door is closed and there are not much space. You would need to force the trim a bit.
The latch has a plastic part which has the latch lock spring in it and if you break the part and get the spring out, the door would open.

The drilling is to get the door latch catch to release. There is a spring inside the latch that is holding the catch. If the drilling did not get to it, the latch woulod not release.
With window fully down, use a torchlight to see from top into the door and see if the position of the drilling is correct. There is a white plastic portion on the door latch and under it is where the catch is held by a spring. You need to get the spring out. If all fails, use a long screw driver sharp enough to chisel off the top of the plastic part. Take care not to break the door glass.
Please reply to post so that I and can attend to you when notification is received.

Hello,
I sprayed the keyhole entrance of my car with a WD-40 so it won't freeze during the winter season. Unfortunately, a small piece of the red plastic noozle broke off and got stuck inside the keyhole mechanism and it's jammed inside. I can't get it out. And now the key won't fit all the way nor open the door. Is there anyway of opening this device to retrieve the plastic. If not, how much do you think will cost me just to replace the driver side key entrance? This is an old car so I can live with using 2 sets of keys. I just want an entrance to the car without having to go to the passenger side to open the door.
Thank you
Rory

Hi stamina,
With a fine stiff hooked wire you should be able to dig the piece out.
You can get a locksmith the take out the cylinder to clean and service the tumblers and it should be as good as new.

I just purchased a 91 honda accord ex with a 142,000 miles on it it has a 4 cyclinder motor in it. the problem i'm having is the left side automatic shoulder strap (seatbelt) in the doorframe just quit working ive check the fuses none are blown and the strap is in the foward position. i can force the stap toward the rear of the door and when i open the door it will return to foward position automaticly no problem but it will not sense when to be at the rear of door in other words it will not apply the shoulder strap as it was designed to do. is there a sensor i should check or what can i do i tried using some spray lube on the track think it might be gummed up but no effect. it seems to me like maybe there is a switch not telling it that it needs to close and if so where is the switch or relay that operates this shoulderstrap

Two things I would do. First I would find the fuse for the seat belt and I can't remember if there was something related to that under the hood at that fuse box. Then if that does not offer a cure I would check the door switch and even swap with another if possible.

The trick is to see if the lever and it is very short moves the actual latching assembly where it contacts the post on the door frame. I would say that the locking assembly is shot and needs to be replaced. You have fun job because getting the inside panel off is really a maddening challenge.

Ignition Switch Going Bad??? I have an 89 Accord LXI Coupe and the "seatbelt/door open" beeper goes on when I apply my brakes in normal driving and cuts off when I accelerate, but if the daytime temperature is above 80º more often than not it beeps continuously. Also, my headlights go out when the turn signal lever clicks back to neutral, I have to turn the headlights off then on to get them back. I've had more classic bad ignition switch symptoms in the past (had to hold the key to keep the engine running when starting, usually only in cold weather), but I haven't had that particular problem in a couple of years. Nor has the car ever died in traffic. Help please!

Hi mflo,
The door ajar warning coming on is most likely due to the door switch being activated. Check the door adjustment and the door switch condition. If the door is loose, the door switch would have minimal contact to deactivate it and braking would cause the door to move resulting in the door switch being activated.
The lighting switch is failing resulting in the headlights going off when the turn signal lever flips back.

Is it locked or just stuck? I assume that you can pull up on the lock pull and that you feel resistance as is normal. The door should be unlocked then. Do the handles both feel like they are connected to something in the door? If I were in your shoes and I knew that the door was unlocked and that the door latch is open but the door was stuck I might try prying it open on the inside or pushing it gently from the inside. That said and it does not work, your next resort is to remove the screw from the door handle and the one from the door pull. Take off the door handle by sliding it toward the back of the car. Unhook the electrical and the snap lock holding the rod. This will be a tight fit to try and get the inside panel of the door off. The bottom half unsnaps. There is a plastic plug but come to think about it it is maybe hidden. The whole panel lifts up and out. From there you can get access to the latch assembly.
Anyone else got any ideas? I bet there are better ones.
