after u sent ur last message i looked again and i think i somehow got the wrong one. i was looking at one that did. if not i will get one. ebay had some used ect 2000 for 20 and 40 but would check them close. was sure i clicked on the one that had both but now dont think it is. o well. thanks
Aug 15, 2013 at 2:12 PM
If you can get a used one for 20 or 40 I would get one.You will really like both the wire tracer and the power probe 3.
Aug 15, 2013 at 5:19 PM
got my new tools. power probe is great. using ect 2000 I get a signal under steering colum pointing to fuse box with pretty fast signal. if I go under glove box I get a signal pointing to passenger door till I get to switch. but if I put it down in where the radio would be it points back towards the driver side. so im guesing it close to fuse box but why does it keep sending signal towards passenger door all the way to switch. thanks

can anybody answer my last question. would like to make sure im running this thing correctly. thanks
Aug 24, 2013 at 3:33 PM
never mind got it figured out. cargo light grounded out. tab broke and dropped on one end. put car back together so i can check the code i got again
Aug 24, 2013 at 4:08 PM
When the signal stops you have a open or short to ground there or your too far from the signal.Sometimes its tough pinpointing the spot.Just raakes time and taking things apart sometimes.
Aug 24, 2013 at 5:07 PM
i guess. it was the light in the trunk. so not sure what it was doingjust checked wiring diagram again and opened the trunk and moved the light and it fell down. put in a fuse and worked. now i have code po440 again.
Aug 24, 2013 at 5:20 PM
Maybe the wires to trunk light were chafed to ground. So how many miles did it take for the 440 to come back.
Aug 24, 2013 at 5:27 PM
the clip broke that holds it in. about 80 miles
Aug 24, 2013 at 5:37 PM
So the used gaas cap is leaking or you has a leak somewhere else.Best way to check it is with smoke.
Aug 24, 2013 at 5:55 PM
could try cap from the 97. smome? u want me to throw a cigarette down the tank might get some smoke
Aug 24, 2013 at 6:11 PM
They make a smoke machine to look for leaks there real expensive. I built one for myself because there so expensive. The 1997 cap should fit.
Aug 24, 2013 at 6:28 PM
i will try it if i get everything back together tomarrow. putting in different speakers while door panels are off. will let you know after i drive it again. thanks for the help

Your welcome keep m posted

decided to check to see if i had something draining on my battery beings it is dead after a few days. had test light on positive side and at ont time pulled all fuses. it stayed on. sometimes it is on then i will lose it. check test light by touching neg. cable and it comes on. when its on its dim. i have the radio and body fuse pulled. if i try to use the power probe how do u hook it up. small negative cable and the probe or will that work that way. thanks
Sep 6, 2013 at 3:55 PM
You can't use a test light to check for oarastic draw you need a multi meter that can read amp and Milli amp draw. There under 10 at harbor freight an other stores.
Sep 6, 2013 at 4:19 PM
i though u just used a test light between cable and battery post. if u had a draw light would come on then pull fuses till it goes out to no what circuit your on.
Sep 6, 2013 at 4:24 PM
On a really old car sure you can but on the newer one they all have some amount of draw that's why they have to measured. Some cars you can have 50 milli amps of draw as normal spec.
Sep 6, 2013 at 4:28 PM
ok had a old micronta and set it at 500m and tried it. needle jumped up some then dropped back to zero. act the same as test light. unhook for a little and hit it again and same thing. seems to biuld a little power and when you test it it relieves the power. is that possible
Sep 6, 2013 at 4:41 PM
No here is what I do and you should too you hook up the meter with doors closed everything off. Then wait ten mins for everything to shut down etc and use that reading.
Sep 6, 2013 at 6:31 PM
got a new ac-delco gas cap on my car and put on 37 miles and the po440 code came on again. have any ideas on what i should try next. thanks
Sep 20, 2013 at 2:01 PM
Smoke test it and see if you can find a leak like that?
Sep 20, 2013 at 2:10 PM
hate to ask but what all does that involve. never did it before. thanks
Sep 20, 2013 at 3:34 PM
You would have to build a smoke machine to send smoke down the vaccum line that doesn't go to the engine off of the canister purge solenoid. You would also have to jump the vent solenoid to close it then send smoke into the system. Also you need to see what the fuel pressure sensor reads with the gas cap off on the scan tool.To make sure the sensor is reading correctly.
Sep 20, 2013 at 3:48 PM
mine has fuel tank pressure 1.58 volts. canister purge solenoid 97%. thats what mine has and that was at 55 mph going to work. or i can find somebody to scan it.
Sep 20, 2013 at 4:55 PM
That sounds like a snap shot I was looking for live data key on engine off gas cap off fuel pressure sensor voltage?
Sep 20, 2013 at 5:23 PM
guess mine dont do that. wished i had a better one. will see if i can get someone to do it. so the line from the front to the back might be leaking? i will try to check some more things when i get time. thanks
Sep 20, 2013 at 5:40 PM
Could be the line the gas tank the fuel pump module seal the vent valve not sealing or working.
Sep 20, 2013 at 7:08 PM
do u no anything about the snapon mt2500 scanner. and if u do what would i need to make sure they have if buying a used one. thanks
Sep 26, 2013 at 2:30 PM
My friend has one there really outdated in there day they were great. They take keys and cartridges for every different car you use it on.So it would have to have the keys for all the carts it comes with.I have a OTC genisys I love it.With the smart cable that eliminates all the inserts they used on thsoe .Its bidirectional so you can command solenoids on and off etc.Works great.
Sep 26, 2013 at 3:42 PM
wondered how old they would be. seen some used ones on ebay. i knew they needed cartridges n keys. just dont know if they had the right ones. maybe just to old to mess with. i will check on what u have n see whats out there. thanks
Sep 26, 2013 at 5:19 PM
seen one with smart cable and cards. all the cables, papers, cd's. on ebay starting at 400
Sep 26, 2013 at 5:41 PM
this one said smart cable on a box in the wire and had cards about like credit cards. must be different
Sep 26, 2013 at 7:56 PM
Yeah the inserts are the same as the keys on the snap on scanner. The cable I have has eliminated the inserts. The Matco pro scan plus or cornwell tech force 2.They read a lot of computers and data there just not bidirectional. You can pick up used ones pretty reasonable.
Sep 26, 2013 at 9:07 PM
on ebay there is a otc genisys 3.0 has cards in it but shows the cable that u sent a pic of. says updated to 2007. says it wont work till updated. but it should still work on cars up to the current date? has several cables, cd's, papers, new battery and charger. $400
