It will turn over, but won't fire. Only getting a P0141 code. What do I do? I put my hand over the muffler and it is blowing air.

This code is an oxygen sensor code. If the oxygen sensor is bad it might be causing too much fuel going into the engine. This could cause your problem.
I would start by getting this code fixed.

When you turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine over can you hear the fuel pump run in the tank for 5 seconds?

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/car-cranks-but-wont-start

Please run down this guide and report back.

car has been running well. Parked it and came out the next morning and engine would crank over, but would not start. Have determined that engine is lacking spark and fuel. Upon key on, i hear the fuel pump run, along with everything else powering up ok. All fuses ok, including the pcm and ign fuse. Have replaced the coil pack along with the ignition module and crank sensor, but with no change. Ignition module getting the 12 volts at the 2 pin conn. on left side. Crank sensor ohmed out at 901 and with engine cranking was getting 1.1 volts. All grounds look good. Unplugged map sensor, no change.
Wondering what to look at next??

Thanks for your help, but the ignition module and crank sensor has already been replaced prior to your post on testing them....Any other clues?

You probably have a blown fuse thats why the scan tool wont power up off the connector.Check the 15amp fuse in the inside fuse box labeled HRN that powers up your scan tool off the obd2 connector.Lets start by seeing if you can get some codes out of the computer and go from there.

I have replaced some plugs on those engines a while ago there is a torque strut front mount somewhere on the engine.Pop the mount loose and see if you can tilt the engine with a ratcheting tie down.As far as you donating at the begining of the month thank you in advance if you could please donate on the question that way i will get credit for it.Also lets see if we can get some codes please post the exact code numbers and not the code descriptions.

My car has a new battery in it but wont crank over it sounds like it is dead but the battery is brand new. Sometimes when i try to give it a jump start it will try to crank over more. I took it to a shop they said it was the coil packs then I took it to Autozone they said the O2 sensors were bad. Could a bad alternator or starter cause it not to start right? Could it be the coil packs or the O2 sensors? Please help!!!

If you are saying the battery is new, yet the car turns over slowly, then remove and clean all battery connections.

If problem persists, remove starter and have it bench tested at most autoparts stores.

Starter access is best under car. It is located where trans and engine attach.

The starter has a large wire from battery attached to it and solenoid switch.

Disconnect negative battery cable before removing starter.

Is it cranking over and w/n start? if so do below to determine if its fuel or spark problem

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine atleast 3/16 away from ground-have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, Do you hear the fuel pump come On when you turn key on? If not check fuel pump fuse and fuel pump relay if so, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, cap and rotor, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it and keep testing

If both fuel and spark is present-check the valve and ignition timing, this will lead you to problems
with compression and valves opening and closing at the wrong time/broken or jumped timing
belt/chain.

Did you actually check the fuel pressure with a gauge if so and its within specs-and you're getting spark-time to check the valve and ignition timing as suggested earlier.

Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Pontiac Grand Am Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Hi,
I have a 96 pontiac grand am SE. 2.4 quad 4 engine. last week my car just quit starting. she will start to turn over, but then she stops dead. If I try to start the ignition again she just stops dead again. We have replaced the starter, checked the battery. No body seems to be able to figure out what is wrong with my car.

The starter will start to crank and then just stops dead. If I try to start it again after that it doesn't do anything. We changed starters, checked the voltage from the battery.

did you check the small purple wire at the starter solenoid, with the key in the crank position, that circuit should be hot. If it isn't hot, possibilities, neutral switch-- ignition switch-- wiring circuit. Do you have a theft system?

If there is good voltage and ground for the starter, and no starter action, you might remove spark plugs and accessory belt, see if you can turn crank by hand.

If you would unplug the mass air flow meter and then start it and see if it starts and idles. The mass air flow meter is between the air filter and the throttle body. Let me know how it goes.
