ok i got a 91 ford bronco 5.8L v8 i replaced the distributor ignition mod. and new plugs and wires new coil and i have spark from the coil bit not from the distribbutor and i think the motor is not at top dead center on the no 1 cylinder. how can i fix it and get it back in timeing. and fix the spark issues

crankshaft balancer has mark and front chain cover has gauge plate and you can feel piston thru spark plug hole with wire/hanger.

ok got the motor tdc and the rotor on the no 1 plug wire but still not firing any ideas? i got spark from the coil to the distributor.

ok is there a home test for the modulator bec there is no place here in spencer ia that can test them. and was also told that the pick up in side the distributor could have gone bad any thoughts on this?

I JUST TRIED TO SEE WHAT YOUR DISTRIBUTOR'S WIRES LOOKED LIKE--I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY WIRES, COLORS, OR WHAT THEY GO TO

IF YOU CAN FIND THE PICK UP, AND THE 2 WIRES INTO IT (I MEAN, INSIDE THE DISTRIBUTOR, NOT THE WIRES ON THE OUTSIDE)

RUN A CONTINUITY TEST THRU THE PICK UP (WHERE THE WIRES ENTER THE PICK UP) I DO NOT KNOW WHICH 2 WIRES IN THE CONNECTOR GO TO THE PICK UP, MAYBE YOU CAN TELL

MAKE SURE THE DIST IS DISCONNECTED FROM THE WIRE HARNESS


BELOW ARE PICS OF MY JEEP---USE AS A REFERENCE---AIN'T EXACTLY LIKE YOURS

1) WHAT IS THE VOLTAGE AT THE POS SIDE OF THE COIL W/ THE KEY "ON"????...... DISREGARD MY JEEP READINGS

2) AND 3) IF YOU HAVE NO/ LITTLE VOLTAGE AT POS SIDE OF COIL---TRY THIS JUST FOR GIGGLES---POS BATTERY TO POS COIL AND CRANK IT (UP)

LET ME KNOW YOUR RESULTS


4) CONTINUITY......OF COURSE YOU WOULD PUT THE WIRE/ PART TO BE TESTED BETWEEN THE 2 PROBES

5) NO CONTINUITY (BREAK IN WIRE, OPEN CIRCUIT)

AM I CONFUSING YOU?

ok from the looks of things the mod is good and the pick up in the dist. is bad i got the part but how do i replace the pick up in side of the dist.

IF YOUR DISTRIBUTOR IS ANYTHING LIKE A "MOTORCRAFT" USED ON '79-'86 JEEP CJs---YOU REMOVE THE RETAINING RING ON THE TOP OF THE SHAFT AND JUST SORTA "DIG IN"!!!


HERE'S ANOTHER OPTION

THIS IS THE ONE I TRY TO DO, AND THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH "REMAN" YOU CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE OF IT AND NEW

THE VERY BEST THING IS---THE REMAN HAS BEEN "GONE THRU" NEW DIAPHRAGMS, BUSHINGS, ETC......FIXING YOURS, JUST REPLACES THE "ONE" PART......YOU ARE LEFT WITH WHAT YOU HAD

THE REMAN HAS A "LIFETIME WARRANTY".....I KEEP ALL OF MY RECEIPTS, AND I TAKE MY "JEEP RECEIPT/ IMPORTANT PAPERS/ WARRANTY BOOK" INTO WHATEVER STORE, NO MATTER WHERE I HAVE TRIED.......I HAVE NEVER BEEN TURNED DOWN ON "USE OF" ANY ONE I HAVE (THAT INCLUDES WORE OUT BRAKES AND OTHER STUFF!)

FORGET ABOUT SWAPPING THE CORE OUT, UNTIL THE NEW (REMAN) ONE IS THERE TO COMPARE TO...STILL LEAVE IT ALONE!!!....NOT GONNA TAKE IT BACK, UNTIL THE OTHER ONE MAKES IT RUN!!!....SO SAVE YOUR RECEIPT!

IF ANY OF THE ABOVE WAS NOT DONE---THE "HARD WAY" IS GONNA BE THE WAY OUT

well my uncle came down and tested all the relays on the bronco and that was the bad one. he put a jumper wire in it and she fired right off

LOOK AT THE FEMALE CONNECTIONS, ARE THEY IN GOOD SHAPE, NOT BURNED OR MELTED?

INSERT THE RELAY IN THE CONNECTOR MULTIPLE TIMES TO SEE IF THAT "SCRAPES" YOU A GOOD CONNECTION....A DAB OF DIELECTRIC GREASE WON'T HURT EITHER

WITH THE RELAY REMOVED, CHECK THE FEMALE ENDS OF THE CONNECTOR, FOR VOLTAGE WHEN THE THE KEY IS "ON" OR EVEN WHEN THE THE KEY IS IN THE "START" POSITION......YOU MIGHT WANNA TEMPORARILY TAKE THE "S" WIRE OFF OF THE SOLENOID SO THE STARTER DOES NOT RUN WHILE YOU TEST

IF YOU WILL TELL ME WHAT THE RELAY IS FOR/ DOES, I WILL ATTEMPT TO TRACE ITS WIRING INTO AND OUT OF THE RELAY AND POST YOU, WHAT ELSE IN THAT CIRCUIT MIGHT AFFECT THAT RELAY'S OPERATION

Ok not sure of the pourpose of the relay is ive traced the wire to the fire wall frm there im not sure where it goes used the grease and the ends arent burnt there is low curent when tested with a test light from the neg side of the battery. when the key is in the on position. im kinda stumped

SEND ME A PIC FROM 4-5 FEET OUT---POINT TO IT'S LOCATION WITH A DISTINGUISHABLE OR COLORED ITEM SO I CAN SEE EXACTLY WHERE IT IS IN COMPARISON WITH OTHER RELAYS/ ETC

ALSO DESCRIBE IT'S LOCATION

"MITCHELL I" DOES SHOW LOCATIONS OF COMPONENTS IN SOME OF THEIR DIAGRAMS.....MAYBE I CAN IDENTIFY IT FROM YOUR INFO, I WILL SEND YOU THE DIAGRAM TOO, SO YOU CAN VERIFY......IF THAT'S POSSIBLE

ok its location is right next to the dist mod clip that goes into the it has one peach wire with red stripe that comes off the clip and it goes from the dist to the harness up by the fire wall on the drivers side to the round deal and then not sure where from there

RECHECK THE DISTRIBUTOR INSTALLATION...USE A RATCHET TO TURN THE ENGINE...DON'T BUMP IT WITH THE STARTER (MAYBE IT'S KICKING BACK AND CONFUSING YOU)...REMOVE THE BATTERY CABLE FROM THE BATTERY WHEN YOU DO IT.......THIS MIGHT BE THE "ONE TIME" IT BUSTS OFF, WHILE YOU "UNINTENTIONALLY HAND CRANK IT".....WE DON'T WANT THAT!

INSURE YOUR FIRING ORDER IS PLACED IN THE SAME DIRECTION THAT THE ROTOR BUTTON TURNS

SORRY!....I'M SORTA SPENT!

IF YOU HAD A CJ, WE'D BE CRUISING RIGHT NOW!
