Will not stay running and stalls while driving

The module was not the problem. After hooking up noid light to injector,ifound that it was pulsing. but no fuel. Bought a new injector solved problem, Wanted to pass that info on in case it ever came up again. After over twenty years working on cars this was the first injector I ever had to peplace in a 4 cyl throttle body. thanks for your help. Hope this will help someone else .

when I am driving the car runs great unless I apply the gas pedal down more than a quarter of the way to the floor. When I do put the gas down more than a quarter, the car cuts out and makes a popping noise as if it is going to die. Also when this happens tha car slows down alot. We have changed the fuel filter. What could this be?

check your TPS voltage, check it at closed throttle and wide open. and compare them to the specs

also check it at a steady sweeping throttle motion, if you see it start to act up when it gets near 1/4 throttle you know what the problem is.

89 z24 2.8 car wont start unless i hold gas to the floor. then wont stay running if i let off the gas. has new iac tps and map sensor. also the tcc has been unplugged. any ideas ?

Any major vacuum leaks? Possible intake? Have you checked fuel pump pressure?

no vacuum leak and fuel pressure is good

Did this happen all at once?

Yes all at once got it to run for ten mins or so earlier but as soon as I give it gas now it stalls

I really feel it has to do with an intake leak. Double check to make sure there are no trouble codes stored in the computer.

That is a knock sensor error. THe knock sensor can play with the ignition timing. Have you checked it?

going to replace it will that cause my problem ?

It could be an issue.

Replaced knock sensor still have to hold gas to floor to start stays running till I hit the gas then stalls .

Is this a TBI or an MPFI system?

Have you cleaned out the EGR valve and also the Throttle Body-Also check the ignition timing if its on specs and readjust the curb idle speed by turning the throttle speed screw-Let us know

mpfi system egr and throttle body cleaned timing good and tried throttle speed adjustment still the same. and i thank u for ur time so far. car still the same

What is the fuel pressure?

i have a 1989 cavalier z24 2.8 and it starts up and runs for about a min, then shuts down i have replaced almost everything i could think of the only thing i havn,t replaced is the fuel pump ,i hear it run whrn i turn the key and it pressure up and shuts off ,after it warms up it olny stays running for a few sec. do you have any anything you can think of to help me

We don't diagnose problems by throwing parts at them. That can get real expensive and never solve the problem. It may not be easy but what you have to do is determine whether it's spark, fuel pressure or injector pulse that is dropping out when this happens.

This has occurred twice to me. Get the battery tested. Both times it was a bad cell in the battery.

The symptoms of this car do not indicate a battery issue.

That is what I thought the 1st time when I had to pay a towing bill and the battery was the problem. I do have my own battery problem. Disconnected the ground to work on the car and when I reconnected it will turn but not start. Is there a fuel pump reset like some Fords?

I have a chey caliviar and will run for a few minutes then cut off, 5 minutes later i will crank it and drive again till it cuts off. Please help

could be bad fuel pump. when it shuts off, listen for pump to come on(in tank) when you turn key to 'on' but not start. what happens if you start it(it starts) and you shut it off before it quits? will it start back up? if you hear pump,and it wont start, check for spark at plugs.

it only dose it when it gets warm, like a smooth die, dosent give me any signs of dieing, it just dies.

so check spark and pump when it dies.

i have an 85 chevy cavalier and it has alot of trouble starting and it will die when i try to reverse or accelerate from a dead stop, it also will sputter if i give it too much gas

HAve you checked for vacuum leaks? Also, has the check engine light come on?

no i havent, and sometime it will come on but i will just put it in park and restart it and then it will go off again

IF the check engine light came on, there is a trouble code stored in the computer. If you take the car to a nationally recognized parts store, have them scan the computer for codes. Most will do it for free and then you'll know where the problem is coming from.

Ok this car has a mass air flow sensor (MAF). So what I would like you to do is unplug it and start it and see if it changes how it runs at all. Now keep in mind it will not have the throttle response but it if you lift the throttle slowly it should stay running. Get back to me on this I included a pic of the part so you know what you are looking for. Now if it changes how it runs before you go buy one I would use some Mass air flow sensor cleaner (no other cleaner should be used) and clean it. Now if it still runs the same but runs better unpluged then the MAF needs to be replaced. They usually cost around 85 dollars.

I have an 1989 Chevy Cavalier. After driving for maybe 45 minutes it starts to shut off. Usually when slowing down for a stop it starts to run rough and then dies. You can re-start it but when you put it in drive it dies again. If you let it cool off it runs okay again. More recently it has developed a knock in the engine but again only if it is warm. I was told a rod or lifter is going bad and it will be $600 to fix. What can you tell me?

Is the shop saying that by fixing the noise, will also fix the stalling?

The mechanic says it will fix the stalling problem. He believes the reason it stalls is due to loosing pressure in the engine, apparently from the rod or lifter being bad. He said it will cost under $600. I REALLY appreciate your help.

Like my friend SW said will fixing the noise will eliminate the stalling-I don't think so-lets try the EGR and fuel pressure for a start and report back ASAP-before you get Zipped with 600buckaroos.

The EGR valve has already been replaced. I don't recall if the oil light is coming on, I know the oil has been changed recently.

Ill drive in the morning then after car has sat for awhile when i use it as soon as i take my foot off gas it acdts like it wants to shut off someitmes it does then it starts right up again but acts like it is gasping and jerking then it will take off for a bit when i come to a stop it shuts off

Has the check engine light ever come on? If so need to have it scanned for trouble codes.This may be a fuel pressure problem. Have a pressure test done on it, describe when and how it acts to the tech so they can replicate the problem
