Hi all, wife drove it to the store and shut it off. Came back out and it won't turn over. Dash lights up, radio works, etc but won't turn over. I went over and pulled the battery and charged it, still nothing. I then tried to put it into neutral to push it back and it won't shift out of gear. I do know how to push the release button so I can get it into neutral. I plugged in my scanner and it won't communicate with the computer. It powers up but says it can't connect. I did try the scanner on another vehicle and it worked fine. Also the check engine light does come on.

Hello,

Can you try the scanner on another car to confirm it is working please? Also is the security light flashing? To me it sounds like the TIPM is out but to be sure lets check the fuses here is a guide and the fuse locations so you can get started.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-fuse

I have included the TIPM replacement instructions as well just in case. It is easy to replace because it self initializes. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

Per my original post, I did try the scanner on another car and it worked fine (second to last sentence). All fuses are also good. I will review the procedure. Thanks

Please run down this guide and report back.

Ok, for Chrysler it states to disconnect the battery for one minute. Well I had the battery out for 4 hours while I charged it so that should have reset the security system if I am reading it right.

Ok, but like I said, I had the battery out which should have reset it. I can disconnect the negative again. I am not home right now.

Also, with the security light flashing, does that lead us down a different path or could it still be the TIPM? Thanks for all your help.

How about a hard reset touching the positive and negative battery cables together (of course after removing from battery)? Will that reset the security system?

Well I tried the hard reset, the lock/unlock with the key and FOB plus walking away. Battery was disconnected for two hours. None of it reset the security system.

Can I use any TIPM from a 2008 T&C or do I have to match the numbers?

You need to match the numbers because there are production changes which will effect the operation.

Thanks again for all your help. I did try a known working TIPM that matched mine (same year with the correct number from a friends running van). It still does the same thing. Security light flashes and it won't start. I did talk to my mechanic and he said I have to get the security light reset at the dealer. I just can't believe there isn't a way to do it on my own. I have tried all the ways on the guide you provided.

Any other ideas?

Here are alarm wiring diagrams to show you how the system works, we need to check for power at fuse j3, you your test light to see if there is power.

Are we sure the schematic is correct for a 2008 Town & Country? The box cover and manual says J3 is for the right rear door module. Also mine is a 30a and the diagram says it's a 40a. It does have power.

Okay, looking further, J3 is for both rear doors. The manual actually states 40a but the TIPM cover states 30a. There is a 30a 8n the box. Following the wire diagram supplied, J3 goes to both rear doors so thinking this is not the alarm circuit.

Hmm, I think we should do a CAN scan to see what it brings up, here is a video that will show you how. They have CAN scanners on Amazon FYI.

Those right the correct wiring diagrams as well. Let me know

Well I gave up and took it to the dealer. They are saying the ECM is bad. Can you tell me where the ECM is located? They are saying they have to remove the bumper.

My research shows the ECM (or PCM) is located under the splash guard by the left front tire. Is this correct? Certainly wouldn't have to take off the bumper for that.

I kind of had a feeling the PCM was bad, but I wanted us to go through the testing to be sure. here is the PCM location and the replacement instructions. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.

Hello,

The first thing we must do is check the fuse. here is a guide with the fuse locations below:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-fuse

If the fuses are okay here is the wiring diagrams for the ALDL you will see the TIPM runs the system which can be the problem which is common. Here is a guide to help check the connections and the TIPM replacement instruction so you can see how to replace it below.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-wiring

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

They do have issues with the TCM on these because of the location. Here is how you replace the unit. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what you find.
