cranks but will not start turn distributor clockwise it backfires but wont start. Also, what is the firing order?

If you turn the distributor and it backfires, it is a timing issue. Was the distributor been removed?
As far as the firing order, it is as follows:
Firing Order: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6
If you look at the attached picture, it identifies cylinder location and where the distributor number 1 plug wire is located.
