Okay, I attached the procedure for you for the shift cable. If it is locked up, it will not allow the transmission to go into park.

Just replaced transmission myself. Almost finished. As I'm under the truck changing the gears manually; it goes into every gear but park. What am I doing wrong that it doesn't show on dash that it's in park? As I manually do it under the truck my wife is in the truck letting me know which gear I'm shifting it to. For some reason every gear lights up but park. Why? Please help.

When you manually have it in park under the vehicle, is the transmission actually in park? Will it start when you shift to park? I ask because the park/neutral switch may be out of adjustment. Try adjusting the range sensor (park/neutral) switch. Here are directions:

Important:
Apply the parking brake.
The engine must start in the P (Park) or N (Neutral) positions only.
Check the switch for proper operation. If adjustment is required, proceed as follows:

1. Place the transmission range selector in the N (Neutral) position.
2. With an assistant in the drivers seat, raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Loosen the park/neutral position switch mounting bolts.
4. With the vehicle in the N (Neutral) position, rotate the switch while the assistant attempts to start the engine.
5. Following a successful start, turn the engine off.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

6. Tighten the bolts securing the switch to the transmission.
^ Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Check the switch for proper operation. The engine must start in the P (Park) or N (Neutral) positions only.
9. Replace the park/neutral position switch if proper operation can not be achieved.

let me know.

Hi,

Okay, does it do anything? Does it place any load on the engine when you shift from park to a drive or reverse? Any noises? I assume the linkage it correct. Even if it was off a bit, the vehicle should move but may be in the wrong gear.

I assume the transmission fluid is clean and full.

Let me know.

The Truck will not go into park. All the other gears work fine. I just can't get it to shift into park. I cant find how to adjust the linkage. I don't see anything blocking the ability to shift. The shifter goes all the way up in the column but the transmission or the linkage is preventing it from going into park.

Hello,

Remove the transmission shifting cable from the selector arm at the transmission and see if you can push the selector more, if you cannot then the parking mechanism (Pawl) inside the transmission is broken and needs to be replaced.

Here is a diagram for what to do

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

I’m having the exact same problem with my 2005 Chevrolet 2500, 6.0. I’m able to pop off the cable from the linkage and push it manually into park but then the cable can’t reach the linkage connector to put it back on until I move it back into the R position. Please help me it's drive nuts.
