Distributor replacement

Hmm interesting. I do not really see anything specific to the feeling the difference between the two. Since Chrysler is generally pretty good about putting that information into the engine number somewhere on the block. The only thing idea I have is either to order both and return the one that does not fit -or- get as many pictures of the two as possible and pull yours to match it up. I know neither option is very good but the first will work better if you can tie up that cash for a bit.

HEYMAN, I find this on a lot of engine parts for this SUV. Maybe some of the other early Durango owners will know about it?

Honestly, this is the first I have heard of this problem. And my mother in law had a 1998 jeep Grand Cherokee with the 318, and my dad has had a 1995 Dakota with the 318 for years now. I will try to do a little more digging later this afternoon.

I got a p0340 code cam position sensor. That is what I was looking for I do not remember what site it was. But I had the same thing looking for a 02 sensor and some other parts. Thanks for checking.

You do not need to replace the distributor they service the sensor separate. Here are instruction and diagrams to help you get the job done:

REMOVAL
Distributor removal is not necessary to remove camshaft position sensor.
1. Remove air cleaner assembly
2. Disconnect negative cable from battery.
3. Remove distributor cap from distributor (two screws).
4. Disconnect camshaft position sensor wiring harness from main engine wiring harness.
5. Remove distributor rotor from distributor shaft.
6. Lift the camshaft position sensor assembly from the distributor housing.

INSTALLATION
1. Install camshaft position sensor to distributor. Align sensor into notch on distributor housing.
2. Connect wiring harness.
3. Install rotor.
4. Install distributor cap. Tighten mounting screws.
5. Install air cleaner assembly.
