Wiring in an aftermarket tachometer

Yes. This is possible to add a tachometer to any vehicle, but you just need to find the correct RPM signal.

You can get this signal from any source including an input speed sensor or if there is a dedicated RPM circuit from the ECM. Normally the ECM will send the RPM to the ABS so if that is the case then you just splice into this wire.

When you splice the wire in you want to solder it. so, here is a video that shows how to solder in a circuit. Clearly this is a headlight, but the soldering process is the same.

We don't have a manual on this engine, but do you know what vehicle it came out of? I see the 5E-FE was built from 90-98 but it is not showing up in the selections.

However, the idea is still the same that you just need to give this aftermarket tach power and ground, then the third wire is any RPM circuit.

You can use the vehicle speed sensor at the rear of the engine. This is going to have the engine RPM on it and not the actual vehicle speed.

If there is no connector, then you are going to have to splice it in on the wire itself.

The link I attached before that shows how to solder wires is what you will need to do. Cut the wire, stripe them and then twist and solder them back together using a heat shrink to protect them.

It helped, the diagnostics was under steering Column. It had RPM output. Just updated my cluster.

Yes, that's partially correct. But RPM Output had to be found out from the OBD port under the steering column.

And a cluster from AE 100 was used.
