Wiper motor

The wipers are acting funny. most times they will move to the up (vertical) position, but will not go back down. If I get out and manually move them up and down, eventually they will start working correctly. Any ideas?

Either the motor is starting to fail or more likely the wiper transmission (the arms and linkage) has a loose nut on the motor shaft. To find out you have to remove the wiper arms and the cowl trim cover under the windshield to get to the drive system. Then look it over to find the problem.
