Greetings,

Following instructions in the owners manual and some variations online to move the wiper blades on my Volvo S80 into service position it seems somehow I have disabled the entire system and the wipers will no longer activate. I have tried other variations of insert the key, press the start stop button once. Wait and press again then move the wiper arm up and hold waiting for either the service feature to engage or the wipers to go back to normal. Nothing. Any help on how to reset the system would be most appreciated.

Hi,

Here is a publication that the OEM put out about how to perform this function. Give this a try and if that doesn't work, let me know and we can dig further. Also, please note that it says to just start the engine and that will return the wipers to normal position.

Let me know and we can go from there. Thanks

Hi KaseKenny1,
Thanks for the quick response. To be clear the wipers are currently in the off and docked position. Read and tried the instructions as described; still nothing. Opened the underhood fuse box and checked the 15 amp fuse with the wiper icon and the fuse is good no issues. Also verified the the wiper fluid is 100% topped off thinking that there may be a sensor telling the wipers to stay off. Retried the attached sequence and nothing. Also while the hood was open I moved the wiper selector arm into high position with the ignition in position II and listened; no sound other than the fuel system pressurizing awaiting the start command. The owners manual is vague on its diagram but seems to indicate that there is a 30 fuse but the iconography under the fuse box lid shows something else. Is there a good photo or diagram showing positions of actual fuses and relays? Not sure if I am going down the right road but will have to be checked. Thanks for your help we will keep trying.

Here are the fuses for the engine compartment fuse panel. I agree with your thought pattern because it seems like they are not operating at all.

It may be necessary if these check out to turn the switch on and measure power at the wiper motor. If you have power going to the motor, it may be the motor has failed.

Greetings,
I checked all fuses and relays no issues. Then hot wired the wiper motor...it works. That left me with the need for further research. My local Volvo dealer ran a diagnostic and found the wiper module had failed. When asked in his past ten years with Volvo how many had he see fail he and his technician stated "never" . So that coupled with the need of a replacement key fob a one thousand dollar bill. Hole this is not a recurring theme of expensive electrical problems. Thanks again for helping me. One more note, another technician did say that there is a possible reset feature of opening and closing the hood while performing the service mode sequence. I tried it and no joy. Fingers crossed for a permanent solution.
Best
