My AC blows cold and hot air but when I select windshield defrost or direct air to feet or head/heat it doesn’t change it only blows air from the head vents.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

It sounds like there is a problem with the mode door actuator. The mode door is what determines the air flow directions. If it doesn't change when you adjust the settings, the actuator isn't working.

Here are directions for replacing the actuator motor specific to your vehicle. It is a bit of a pain because of location, under the dash. The two attached pictures correlate with these directions.

Mode Control Motor Replacement

1. Remove the glove box. See: Glove Compartment > Removal and Replacement

2. Remove the wire harness clip (A), the self-tapping screws, and the passenger's heater duct (B).

3. Disconnect the 7P connector (A) from the mode control motor (B). Remove the self-tapping screws and the mode control motor from the heater unit.

4. Install the motor in the reverse order of removal. Make sure the pin on the motor is properly engaged with the linkage. After installation, make sure the motor runs smoothly.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions. Keep in mind, once you access the actuator motor, check to see if it is working by changing air flow directions. Do that before just replacing it.

Take care,
Joe
