Will not shift into third or overdrive.1st and 2nd gears perfect. Instead of shifting to 3rd it seems to go into neutral.

There is a good possibility it is either the valve body in the transmission or the clutches are burned out inside the transmission.

I would start by dropping the pan and looking for debris in the pan's magnet. Check for any chunks as well. This will help me to narrow the area of failure.
