will not kick out of four wheel drive

when my husband starts the car and tries to get it out of four wheel drive it will sometimes go into two wheel drive, but then goes right back into four wheel drive. it will not stay, he has tried changing it in park and in neutral and it does not help.

Hi HARLEY,

This sounds like a problem with the 4x4 transfer case shift actuator/encoder motor, I think the gears are broken inside and it needs to be replaced.

Here is a guide that will help you get the problem fixed.
