Will a 1997 Explorer transmission interchange with a 1994 Explorer

Sorry do not know all details about vehicle doing this for hubby who is not around right now. He has a 1997 Ford Explorer transmission will it interchange? We have a 1994 Ford explorer 4.0 transmission?

It might physically fit, but the 1997 will have electronic controls to make it work that the 1994 does not have. So the short answer is that no they will not interchange. Sorry.
