white smoke from exhaust and car running rough

I had timing chain and water pump replaced two weeks ago,car had a little white smoke coming from exhaust when I picked the car up from the repair shop, I thought that it was just a a break in period . Mechanic told me he had to replace bolts on intake manifold wondering if its anything that was done that could have cost car to blow white smoke and running rough.
