Whirring sound from starter?

We were a couple blocks from our house heading to the store and all of a sudden the car shut off. When we tried to start it again it just made a whirring sound from what we think is the starter.

Can you get a recording of this noise? The reason is, it could be the starter not engaging but that would not explain why the vehicle just shut off. Hearing the noise will really help figure out what the possible causes could be.

Okay. That is great.

That noise at the end of it cranking that would sound like the whirring sound is normal.

However, it sounds like you just have a no start issue. Is the vehicle starting and you were just concerned about the noise from the starter or are you have a crank no start issue?
