Hi, please see the attached video. I hear, but not always, whining sound, it happens when I move slowly in first gear, but if I declutch the sound disappears. Is if first sign of bad transmission?

Hi,

It could be a few things. By chance, could you reattach the video again? It didn't come through.

Next, the noise could be a wheel bearing, output shaft bearing, and a few other things. However, I need to know if it only happens in first gear, if the transmission fluid is clean and full, and if this is something that just started.

Also, please understand this vehicle isn't offered in the US, so I have little to no information on it. However, I will try my best to help.

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

Hello,

The video is not very clear as filmed from inside the vehicle

Your vehicle is equipped with the 6speeed F40 manual transmission

There are no known issues with 1st gear noises, there is a factory bulletin regarding 4th whining noise which obviously does not apply

I would suggest first lifting the vehicle in front, securely supported, and seeing if you can reproduce the noise with the front wheels in the air. You could then take a new video at the transmission.
Suggest to also check the transmission for leaks, check transmission oil level. If drained the total fill quantity is 1.7L, 1.8 quarts.
A new drain and filler plug should be installed, tightened to 30Nm

A guide:

A how to video, this one on a Saab 9-3, same transmission:

Cheers, Boris
