There is a clicking noise behind the dash, which actuator has gone bad

I know I have at least one actuator which has gone bad due to the clicking noise behind dash. I’m just not sure which actuator I need to replace. Is there a trick/tip in diagnosing which actuator has gone bad?

One other note, I think this is causing a parasitic drain on my battery. I have already replaced the relay in the SJB. When I pull fuses, #41 in the battery junction box is the culprit; however that fuse is for the SDARS and APIM.

Good afternoon,

Try changing modes and temperature. when you do those commands, the actuator should change pitch or stop until the actuator has settled.

the blend door actuator for the right side is right there. I attached the procedure for you to view.

Temperature Blend Door Actuator — RH, EATC

Item Part Number Description
1 RH temperature blend door actuator electrical connector (part of 14401)
2 W701696 RH temperature blend door actuator screw (3 required)
3 19E616 RH temperature blend door actuator
Removal and Installation

Remove the RH floor console finish panel.

Lower the glove compartment.
Disconnect the RH temperature blend door actuator electrical connector.
NOTE: The upper RH temperature blend door actuator screw can be removed using a shallow 1/4-inch drive swivel-type socket and extension.

Working through the glove compartment opening, remove the upper RH temperature blend door actuator screw.

Remove the 2 remaining RH temperature blend door actuator screws.
Remove the RH temperature blend door actuator.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.

I heard the clicking the most when changing the temperature. I already pulled the glove compartment out, so this shouldn’t be too hard to replace. Just need to get the part! Thank you for your suggestions. I’ll let you know how this progresses. Could a bad actuator cause the parasitic drain?

Blend door actuator. They are the same for both sides.

Any parts store will carry them.

Do you have pictures on how to change the LH side as well? I tested temperature on dual and definitely the right one is making a lot of noise. But, there was another noise higher in the dash on the LH side as well. Might as well change that one at the same time.

Removal and Installation

Remove the LH floor console finish panel.

Position the in-vehicle temperature sensor aspirator hose away from the LH temperature blend door actuator.
Remove the 3 LH temperature blend door actuator screws.
Disconnect the LH temperature blend door actuator electrical connector.
Remove the LH temperature blend door actuator.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
